there is a very specific type of political enlightenment when you allow yourself to acknowledge bad people can be attractive and funny and intelligent and still be bad people because those things don’t quantify morality

“i’ve never met a pretty racist” “republican makeup” etc etc is all just enforcing the idea that being conventionally unattractive is a moral failing. stop doing that. it’s an actively dangerous idea to spread

mommy issues test! watch Lady Bird and then see if your emotions drive you to apologize to your mom for being too hard on her, or if it makes you send your dad a sappy text thanking him for, well, not being your mom. lol

letterboxd reviews for this movie tell a lot about a person

everyone saying Lady Bird is just a privileged brat did not catch the countless scenes where the mother displays narcissistic traits and emotionally abuses her

but the people who have had a narcissistic mom can see past the typical “the emotional one is the one at fault, the calm one is the victim” mindset because yeah that’s part of what makes the abuse soo mind fucky. if you think its normal for your mom to tell you in a casual tone that you’re not good enough for all the things you dream of, and to constantly crush your spirits, i’m sorry but people who don’t tolerate it quietly are not just ungrateful. Nobody should talk to you that way ESPECIALLY not your mother and i don’t give a god damn how hard her life is. Envision yourself telling your young daughter she’s too fat, not smart enough, unrealistic and should do something she hates cause it’s all she’ll ever be capable of….. Thats cruel isn’t it?? It doesn’t become less cruel just because they’ve done it your whole life. Thats not even a lack of a maternal instinct thats actual callousness.

The mindset that you need to break down your kid’s spirit to manage their expectations IS ABUSE and people who so viciously side with the mother in those situations really need therapy cause you know what it is right??? They’re defending their moms. It’s uncomfortable to admit someone you love and care about abused you can especially if they’re still in your life. So its easier to berate the victim for being emotional or dramatic although those exact responses were the goal for the narcissist. God. This shit weighs on my spirit more than anything i’ve been through. I’ve been beaten, raped, held at gunpoint, but none of those people were the one person in the world who is supposed to love me the most, so i can write them off as villains and move on without them. But my mom? I just play dead while we have the same interactions over and over. It eats at me every day. I leave her house and immediately binge eat every fucking day. I so badly want to go no contact but i’ve tried and she makes me the villain, people stalk me for her even when i don’t mention her online other places. she still passive aggressively asks me if i saw her posts and then goes “oh right, you deleted me.” I just wish she’d punch me so it would be easier to shut her out. It’s too easy for her to gather a crowd to feel sorry for her and judge my character for how i respond to 27 years of abuse because I got mouthy once. Nobody would even believe the shit she’s said to me in private.
