The first time I remember having a real life movie moment was my senior year in high school.

It was Friday night, the end of the football season. Our team was playing the main rival and we were undefeated. There were about 10,000 people in the stands.

I remember marching to the stadium, turning the corner when the it came in full view.

For a moment, time stopped and it was almost as if the sound dimmed, and I felt as if I wasn't in my own body.

Then the moment passed.

I have had a few movie moments since then, the pause of time, the feeling I'm part of something bigger. It's always been playing music.

I haven't had one since I decided on a different career path.

I'm not sure what it means.

I didn't give up music: I still play in four different groups. I teach at band camp every year. I love music so much. I'm still passionate about it.

But I miss being transported, even if only once in awhile.

That must have been an amazing moment! I'm glad you still have your passion, and your involvement, and maybe you'll have another amazing moment in the future.

It sounds as if you're describing one of those moments where you wonder, "Wait, is this real?"

Mine usually aren't for "Too spectacular for reality!" incidents, but more for when the real seems more surreal. And it's unsettling.

Maybe what you're missing is being part of something huge and real and almost 3-dimensional, the way marching band might seem more than concert band?

I've experienced this too. It's like a vision. I think maybe it's a signpost, a foreshadowing of the future - a way of letting you know what's coming down the road.

Here's to a happy journey!
