A 19-year-old black trans girl was shot to death this month, and there has been absolutely no media reporting on it - despite extensive reporting on almost identical incidents in the same part of Florida, at the same time. The police, as usual, misgendered her in the police report and have done nothing to find her killer. Her name was Jayla Mcgee. Black trans people deserve to grow old.
My name is Tawi, and I’m reaching out for help for myself and my girlfriend. I know you’ve probably seen my fundraisers floating around before, and while I am still working doing art commissions, it’s hard for me to get hired anywhere in a wheelchair. Both my girlfriend and I are disabled and I myself am currently living in a food desert, where it’s nearly impossible to find affordable groceries, safe sidewalks, or reliable healthcare. The sidewalks in our area are so poorly maintained that my wheelchair motor is constantly at risk, it's the fifth time it's broken and everytime it breaks its a $500 repair, and the lack of accessible housing and medical care has made daily life a real struggle for me. Furthermore, the house that I’ve been staying in for the last year has five flights of stairs, including the first two to get into the building, and it’s been a nightmare getting in and out of the house with my wheelchair.
On top of all the expenses needed to move, I also have a sick kitty that I’m caring for, and the vet has recently located a tumor where her kidney is, and she’s continuing to pee blood even after her round of antibiotics, and she’s having an increasingly hard time keeping weight on.
Id like to move to a state where I can finally access better healthcare for me and my cat, find a place I can actually afford that’s not on the third floor, and live in a community where I can get around safely. The funds from this fundraiser will go directly toward moving expenses, car insurance, gas, securing a new place to live, and covering the gap in healthcare coverage during my transition. Some of you may recall when I was hatecrimed a year and some change back, where my belongings were trashed and my wheelchair and crutches were stolen, this money would also be going to help me find community in a more accepting area where I no longer have to live with strangers and be at risk for something like this happening again. Every bit of support will help us take this important step toward a safer, healthier, and more independent life.

hi all, just want to try conveying the importance of this again cuz its hard watching people continuously able to meet goals for nonessentials while a black wheelchairbound transfem is going largely without aid for basic survival and safety.
tawi recently had to move from her rental room back with abusive family due to funds, and the longer i see her there the more difficult stomaching any of this gets. her mood has been heavily impacted even beyond her capacity to go places for herself, and the longer she is left in stasis the more and more worried i am also becoming for her cat whom she has had to leave in temporary care with a family member who has continuously failed to feed her and respond to medical emergencies that are wholly preventable. on top of everything i dont want to see the pet suffer or her have to keep having to watch it when i know getting her here as planned would fix the problem.
we're waiting on a call back for a place we applied to, but even if we get it i know we still need about $600 of that goal minimum to make sure rent and travel is covered. consider sharing or checking out our commission info.
