Season 5 Cas is like, Dean and I have an obligation to each other because we both oppose the apocalypse and deny the roles given to us by heaven, it's a soldier's bond, we have a shared mission, and then he's so baffled and charmed when he shows up and Dean is like "Cas! Remember last time I made a reference and you said you didn't understand so I found a copy of the book/movie/tv show, let me show you all the reasons why humanity is worth saving, let me show you joy and comfort and friendship and laughter, let me show you why this is so much more than a mission, let me show you why this is not only the right thing but a good thing" and then Cas learns to love humanity through Dean

He's learning to be a person! I also love his over exaggerated gestures because imagine you were a wavelength of celestial intent and you had to learn corporeal communication in a body that was not instinctive to you, he's trying his best to use gestures and body language that Dean would understand and he does is with such sincerity.
And he trusts Dean to show him things! He likes learning the human world through Dean's eyes specifically! There's trust and understanding (and love later down the line) there, you know?
