Anthropic’s rapid iteration on the Claude 4 family, including the April 2026 launch of Opus 4.7 with gains in long-context coding and high-resolution vision, has shaped trader views on when a true next-generation model labeled Claude 5 will arrive. Internal previews of a more capable system codenamed Mythos, combined with leaks referencing a “Fennec” Sonnet variant, point to active development of a major architectural jump rather than another incremental update. Competitive pressure from OpenAI’s GPT-5 timeline and Google’s Gemini releases adds urgency, yet Anthropic’s history of conservative public naming and extended testing cycles suggests traders are pricing in a Q2–Q3 2026 window. Key upcoming catalysts include developer conferences and any early API access announcements that could confirm the model’s official branding and capabilities.
