I dedicate this to darkasphodel, in the hopes that she will feel better, and she did for me.

The first ever Sycophant Hex Story Festival!!

The New Year is a time of new beginnings. What better way to consider what your favorite character will do, or how they will change. Circumstances are up to you!

Overview

Festival guidelines are contained in a following section. Stories are not required to be any genre but need to in some way be connected with New Years. There is no 'evaluation' of the stories except for the moderation used at SH so it is up to each author to ensure that his or her story fits the spirit of the Festival. If a story is considered to be reasonable, but not fulfilling the spirit of the festival, the story will be sent back for posting at the appropriate archive.

We hope to show off our writers' abilities with wonderful new and varied stories.

I could use some help. If you know of an author who writes HP Fanfic, could you ask the person to join in? Feel free to send this newsletter to anyone who wants to read it, or refer the person to me and I'll take care of the details. The author does not have to be a person who normally posts to Sycophant Hex!

I'm excited about this event and hope we have an incredible turnout!

Participation

An author can write as many stories as they would like. The more the merrier I say!

All archives are open to this: Ashwinder, Chaos, Lumos, Morsmordre, Occlumency, Pureblood, Serpensortia, and Wolfsbane. The guideline for Lumos that limits posting to authors posted on other archives will be lifted for this event; however, all other submission guidelines remain in effect.

Stories can be submitted now or anytime up until January 2nd at midnight, EDT.

The festival stories will be released on January 3rd to whichever archive is appropriate for the story. Stories will be released all at once, so there will be lots to read!

Story Guidelines

Stories will be split into three categories:
Parties - 'What is New Year's Eve without a party?'
New Beginnings - 'What changes unfold with the start of a New Year?'
Resolutions - 'What resolutions do your characters make? How do they keep to them?'

I hope we see multiple submissions from everyone who has the time. There is plenty of scope with this theme. PWP, smut, serious life affirmations, humorous debacles…There is something for everyone!

I would explain the categories, but I think they are pretty self explanatory. Feel free to email me if you are unsure, or have a question.

Submitting Stories

Please do not post these stories to the queue! We want to post them all at the same time. To do this, they will need to be emailed to:

festival@sycophanthex.com

Stories posted to the archives will be returned to the author with directions to email the stories as instructed.

There are a few things to take into consideration before doing this.

All stories submitted should be in one of the following formats: MS Word, WordPerfect, and HTML. However if you have italics, bold or underlines you will need to add the code in the MS Word or WordPerfect documents. [< I >italics< /I > < b >bold< /b >, < u >underline< /u > (without the spaces between the letter and < >.)]

In addition, since stories will not be put through the queue in the usual way, we will also need a header for each story. This header should include:

Author:
Category:
Title:
Summary:
Genres:
Ratings:
Warnings:

Stories should still follow the posting rules for Sycophant Hex. I will not go into this since most already know how to do it; they are also available at each of the Sycophant Hex archives in the FAQ section under Submission Rules. If there are any questions contact me at gbbjg@yahoo.com and I'll try to help out.

Other Questions

I assume there will be questions. If so, send them to me at gbbjg@yahoo.com and I'll do the best I can to answer them. Questions may be directed to webmistress@sycophanthex.com also.

Everyone at SH wishes all authors the best of luck in their writing and Happy Holidays!
