The thing that really gets me about royai is that they could’ve met for the first time in Ishval as two idealistic soldiers that bonded over their hopes and dreams getting crushed by the war. That alone would’ve been tragic, enough to explain how they became so close.
But no, Arakawa had to go the extra mile and make it even more complicated. She had to make them share the responsibility and guilt over flame alchemy. They’re literally the only ones who can fully understand each other’s pain.
The depth of their bond is simply insane.
