I feel dividing music listenership into "people who exclusively listen to streaming services" and "people who exclusively listen to physical media" is overlooking the important transitional category of "people who exclusively listen to shitty overcompressed MP3s they pirated on LimeWire in 2002".

At a glance, the MP3s in this particular folder manage to spell "Simon and Garfunkel" at least three different ways, none of them correct.
Dare I ask how else it was spelled?

A surprising number of those low quality "CD rips" in the early 2000s were not, strictly speaking, CD rips at all – they were literally just someone shoving their PC speaker up against their microphone and hitting "record", so they'd pick up all sorts of environmental audio. I still have one MP3 I downloaded around September of 2002 where you can very clearly hear somebody's cell phone in vibrate mode going off around the three minute mark.

you guys know you can get USB connectable CD, dvd, and blu-ray players right. and you can buy external hard drives with crazy amounts of space for an amount of money that would make the average person from 2009’s head explode bc of how cheap it is. and if you do this and get ripping software such as handbrake for CDs and DVDs and makeMKV for blurays you can both own a physical copy of whatever media you want and make it accessible to yourself no matter where you are. do you guys know this

Take a friend with you. It'll be fun. Get a cd case that was gonna go in the trash anyway
Fill it with your new DVD collection
Now you OWN those and many even have digital codes so you can download the movie in case the disc breaks
Cancel your Spotify
Start burning your own cd mixes. Draw on the cd.
Remove yourself from digital reliance. Take back having power over what you experience without needing to subscribe monthly

Anna's Archive managed to get their hands on "86 million music files" from Spotify, "representing around 99.6% of listens" and metadata for "256 million tracks", that represents "estimated 99.9% of tracks"

We backed up Spotify (metadata and music files). It’s distributed in bulk torrents (~300TB), grouped by popularity.
This release includes the largest publicly available music metadata database with 256 million tracks and 186 million unique ISRCs.
It’s the world’s first “preservation archive” for music which is fully open (meaning it can easily be mirrored by anyone with enough disk space), with 86 million music files, representing around 99.6% of listens.
