It's been a bit of a break due to Real Life but I hope to be able to start getting back to some more photo posting. It might not be as often as it used to but I do hope that it's more often.
In most recent news, I got a new Pentax K5. It was an end-of-year special so I got an 18-55 lens with the body for only $25NZ more than just the body would have cost me at another camera shop. Cool! It's got a 14 megapixel sensor, better than the 10 megapixel I've got now. And it's got a movie. I'm hoping to play with that some more. I need to get the money together to get a spare battery & some high capacity cards in prep for our trip home in a few months.
I tested it on Christmas day. We went out to the Auckland Botanic Gardens. Here are a few shots that I took to play with my new toy.
Here's an echinacea, colour version:

and black and white:

And this one is another heavy crop from the above picture:

I
like both versions but am partial to the black & whites. Here are some more along these lines:

This is a "cardoon", it's a kind of artichokey-thistley thing.

This is a hollyhock I cropped from a much larger image. I like how the camera has such nice high res, it's not obvious that it's been cropped so much.

Lastly, I liked the textures in this fancy lettuce.

I am looking at doing a series called The View From Here. I don't think I can handle something that is daily, I might do it weekly, maybe throwing in some more often if I'm up for it. I posted the first one here.
Here are 2 shots for today. They were the same place, the train station this morning. Usually there are people around and usually I don't have my camera, but things worked together to get these shots.
And yes, we're in summer right now so that is a warm, humid, sticky rain you see.

I took this one because I liked it, I liked the texture and the repetitiveness to the bench I was sitting on. I usually go for the farthest end in this particular shelter.
