It's been over a month since I've posted in this journal. It's been the usual story, Life, Work, Stress, Everything. I did a little work on my Pinepig Studio shop at Cafepress a couple weeks ago. I've done some more tonight.
I've gone through all the items in the Plants and Flowers section and have tried to get at least a basic set of products up for each image there. I've also cut the section down from 11 to 6 images. I want to go through and get rid of some of the duplication I have (ie--I've got an image in the Colour section as well as the Plants section because it fits in both) and I want to cut back on some images, just to keep things tidier and to make it easier for me to update the products in each section quicker.
Currently the products I'm concentrating on making sure are on each active image are (in order of cost):
Greeting Card (single)
Rectangle Magnet (single)
Tile Coaster
Ornament (round or oval, whichever works best)
Postcards (8 pack)
Framed Tile
Journal
Note Cards (10 pack)
Large Mug
Greeting Cards (10 Pack)
Small (Pet) Bowl
Note Cards (20 pack)
Ceramic Travel Mug
Rectangle Magnet (10 pack)
Large (Pet) Bowl
Keepsake Box
Greeting Cards (20 pack)
Stackable Mugs (set of 4)
I've also got a few extra items on some images, things like hats, regular mugs, posters and jackets. I will eventually look at rolling these out to other images but this will depend on time and if they work on those images (ie--the hats and jackets have embroidery type stitching which doesn't translate well to all images). I may consider doing other items like stickers, clocks, drink bottles or cloth bags.
I'm going to re-jig some of the sections themselves. Like I said, I've got some images in more than one section. I completely got rid of the "Colour Inspired" section tonight. There was only one set of images in that section that wasn't in another section. I moved the Stained Glass Angel & Maori Priest image (same image, one just had the words over it) into the "New Zealand Images" section and have marked the Colour section as hidden so I can eventually get rid of it.
I also have some images that I haven't resized the photos for all products yet so I want to re-evaluate those and decide to either keep or get rid of them. It's hard. I want images that stand out, I don't just want the usual flower-beach-type images. I want images that are different but ones that people will still want to purchase.
Once I get the products across all images I also need to beef up a couple of sections:
Plants and Flowers
Photos of Critters
Antiques
I need to think about the Items for Love and Lovers section, do I want to keep this?
What do I want to do with the Seasonal Section (currently hidden)? I've got some Autumn images there (but again, missing a lot of products there) and the Christmas/Solstice one is the largest. Do I want to add a Spring and Summer? Or should I just call it even and turn it only into Christmas/Solstice for now since I don't have a lot of Summer or Spring shots. I've got a couple Valentines/Anti Valentines but this is basically the same as Love and Lovers so can do without one or both.
I also want to look at some of the earlier sections I set up. The descriptions in some aren't great and I picked up today that one section I did a copy-paste in so the description referred to "Greeting Card" no matter what the product was. Not professional at all! I fixed that quickly but suspect I've got other bugs to work out.
The calendars did pretty well last year, I sold I think 6 of them (hey, that's good for me!). I think I'll keep those as they are for now. I might consider adding new ones maybe next year. What I might do is check the last image of each calendar and put my shop name (or web address??) in small words on the bottom of the last image. When you order something from Cafepress it doesn't link you to the shop name and if someone wants to buy another one they won't know how to find me. I need to think about this because I don't want it to be too obvious, just something small.
I've also considered putting in sections according to product. For example, having a section of just magnets or just single greeting cards. I don't know if this would just make things too unwieldy or not.
As always, I'm open for thoughts from you. If there are images that you particularly like let me know. If there are products you'd really like to see, let me know so I can put that on my list. If you notice something glaringly wrong or that doesn't look right, let me know please.
I'm going to post some of this to my Red_Trillium journal. Some of you are on both, but I want to get thoughts from people on both journals.
PS--There's currently a Cafepress sale going on for $3 off of orders over $30 (excluding shipping) until 5 August, Coupon code AAUG1130 must be entered at check out. As we come up to Christmas season I'll try to remember to post about these more often in case you are thinking about an order.
