Somatechnische Erfahrungen. Ethnographische Gespräche mit Kindern mit Prothesen aus dem 3D-Drucker.Melike Şahinol - 2025 - In Robert Stock, Christian Meier zu Verl, Melike Şahinol, Markus Spöhrer, Axel Volmar, Andreas Wagenknecht & Anna-Lena Wiechern, Dis/Ability und digitale Medien: Interdisziplinäre Perspektiven auf Technologien, Praktiken und Zugänglichkeiten. Wiesbaden: Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden. pp. 227-257.

  2. Consent for Medical Device Registries: Commentary on Schofield, B. (2013) The Role of Consent and Individual Autonomy in the PIP Breast Implant Scandal.A. L. Bredenoord, N. A. A. Giesbertz & J. J. M. van Delden - 2013 - Public Health Ethics 6 (2):226-229.
The clinical introduction of medical devices often occurs with relatively little oversight, regulation and (long-term) follow-up. Some recent controversies underscore the weaknesses of the current regime, such as the complications surrounding the metal-on-metal hip implants and the scandal surrounding the global breast implant scare of silicone implants made by France's Poly Implant Prothese (PIP) Company. The absence of national registries hampered the collection of reliable information on the risks and harms of the PIP breast implants. To warrant long-term safety, a (...)

Neuroprothesen und Gehirn-Computer-Schnittstellen.Jens Clausen - 2024 - In Frank Erbguth & Ralf J. Jox, Angewandte Ethik in der Neuromedizin. Berlin, Heidelberg: Springer Berlin Heidelberg. pp. 189-201.

  4. Merleau-Ponty and the Digital Era: Flesh, Hybridization, and Posthuman.Floriana Ferro - 2021 - Scenari 15:189-205.
The paper discusses a posthuman reading of Merleau-Ponty’s later works and an application of the concept of flesh to the digital dimension. Whereas, in the Phenomenology of Perception, the world and other beings are seen from an egological and human perspective, in The Visible and the Invisible this perspective is reshaped. Human body is made of the same stuff of other bodies, and they constitute a common being, the flesh of the world. Merleau-Ponty sets out a path through flat ontology (...)

  5. Postphenomenological Re-embodiment.Don Ihde - 2012 - Foundations of Science 17 (4):373-377.
The phenomenological tradition has had a long interest in embodiment, and bodily experience beyond the confines of the “skinbag” body. Here I respond to Helena De Preester’s analysis of different types of protheses: limb, perceptual, cognitive. In her paper “Technology and the body: the (im)possibilities of re-embodiment”, she wants to make finer distinctions between extensions and incorporations . Today’s hi-tech developments make this refinement necessary and possible. I respond to the three levels or types of prostheses taking note of (...)

Der unfertige Mensch und seine Technik.Hyun Kang Kim - 2025 - In Oliver Ruf & Luca Viglialoro, Figurationen des Mangels in Ästhetik, Design- und Kunstpraktiken. Berlin, Heidelberg: Springer Berlin Heidelberg. pp. 11-22.

  8. Ethical Issues in Cyborg Technology: Diversity and Inclusion.Enno Park - 2014 - NanoEthics 8 (3):303-306.
Progress has reached the point where cyborg technology is leaving the sphere of mere science fiction. Whereas society as a whole formed a symbiosis with technology long ago, individuals are now starting to merge with technology as well. The effects can already be studied by looking at the examples of smartphones, computers and the Internet. The idea of ‘repairing’ humans, medical implants more sensitive than our natural, human faculties and even non-medical implants raise a lot of ethical questions, and require (...)

Figurationen des Mangels in Ästhetik, Design- und Kunstpraktiken.Oliver Ruf & Luca Viglialoro (eds.) - 2025 - Berlin, Heidelberg: Springer Berlin Heidelberg.
In seinem Buch Der Mensch.

  10. The Role of Consent and Individual Autonomy in the PIP Breast Implant Scandal.B. Schofield - 2013 - Public Health Ethics 6 (2):220-223.
The current scandal surrounds the global breast implant scare of silicone implants made by France's Poly Implant Prothese (PIP) Company. An ensuing review recognized that efforts in investigating the distress caused to so many women were hampered by a lack of reliable and comprehensive information about all the adverse incidents relating to PIP breast implants, as well as uncertainty about comparative data on similar products. One of the recommendations following the review was the investigation of the potential for re-establishing a (...)

    Thoughts Unlocked by Technology—a Survey in Germany About Brain-Computer Interfaces.J. R. Schmid, O. Friedrich, S. Kessner & R. J. Jox - 2021 - NanoEthics 15 (3):303-313.
A brain-computer interface is a rapidly evolving neurotechnology connecting the human brain with a computer. In its classic form, brain activity is recorded and used to control external devices like protheses or wheelchairs. Thus, BCI users act with the power of their thoughts. While the initial development has focused on medical uses of BCIs, non-medical applications have recently been gaining more attention, for example in automobiles, airplanes, and the entertainment context. However, the attitudes of the general public towards BCIs (...)
