Abstract

This chapter introduces the basic ideas and problems of the book: the relation between the transcendental and the transcendent, the threatening slide to philosophical illusion in the pursuit of transcendence, and the problems involved in reductive attempts to reinterpret discourses of transcendence in a non-metaphysical manner. The integration of pragmatist and transcendental methodology is preliminarily laid out.
