Abstract

I address five questions about infant consciousness. First, methodology: How can we study consciousness in infants? Second, neurobiology: Where in the brain is infant consciousness (or its neural basis) located? Third, existence: Whether newborn infants are conscious. Fourth, development: When does consciousness emerge in human development? Fifth, phenomenology: What is infant consciousness like? I use these questions to review the current state of the science and philosophy of infant consciousness.
