Abstract

This article aims to illustrate how Certeau’s analysis of the events of his time creates an opportunity to incorporate a theoretical reflection on the nature of institutions and their manipulation of belief—considered an «intangible raw material» essential for establishing their authority—into studies and research on the social apparatus of belief.Additionally, this contribution underscores the complexity of Certeau’s perspective on this subject, demonstrating that his approach maintains a deeply democratic political stance, resisting both the praise of practices of destitution and any nihilistic interpretation.
