Abstract

The question of materialism is studied following the solicitations which come from the phenomenological geographies of Dardel and Berque, and from the more-than-representative geographies, in order to take the path of a geo-poietic/poetic materialism. This gesture is justified by the traditional identification between matter and extension that informs “scientific materialism”. The abandonment of an abstract spatiality for a spatiality of situation, engraved in matter, is accompanied by recasting geographical reality and removing it from the fiction of the isolated object, bringing it back to its relational and atmospheric dimension. A bastard dimensionality, where the objective-subjective distinction is disrupted, permeating the environment in which geographical practices are reconfigured, where the poem of the world is constantly rewritten. These geographic constellations, vibratile and open, take flesh by recalling a phenomenology of the senses that enhances the aesthetic texture of the geographic experience, accompanying the reflection of the hylé to the plastic sphere of the sensible. A geography of bones, devoted to objectifying invariances and the description of the experiential structure, is replaced by a geography of the flesh where access to geographic constellations come into contact with materiality, the reciprocal installation of bodies and things. The geographic experience as performative expressive gesturality and the new reflection on geographic form in a morphogenetic perspective are therefore the coordinates of the argument.
