Abstract

This chapter discusses the concept of transpersonal gratitude, building on a critical analysis of dyadic types of thankfulness that have been identified in contemporary philosophical literature, such as propositional, existential and non-directed gratitude. It addresses some objections that have been raised against non-directed forms of gratitude, drawing on empirical research in the fields of psychology and anthropology, and develops the concept of transpersonal gratitude, exploring the contextual elements that distinguish this modality of gratitude from interpersonal ones.
