My boyfriend is looking to move to Philly (at last!) and so is job hunting. He's looking for somewhere that makes cool stuff - furniture, interiors, buildings, things along those lines. Does anyone know of any sorts of places like this? Amuneal, Onionflats and SAAW come to mind, but I'm sure there are plenty of other people out there who aren't well known. He currently does very designery concrete countertops, and knows how to weld, but is interested in making just about anything interesting.
I'm looking for a plumber who has this contraption to locate a sewer gas smell. Any recommendations? (I've talked to 5 plumbers and the Philadelphia Water Department... no luck.)
What are your favorite/best stores or sources for various different building products in the region? Where is the cheapest place to buy various things? Where are the places where you can get stuff you can't get anywhere else?
Does anyone know of a place you can pay to use power tools? I've seen a few listings on craigslist that are monthly rentals, and I don't need that much tool access (or to spend $350) - more like 3 hours with a bandsaw every so often. I promise not to cut eoff any appendages.
