I guess the question is why CodeMirror needs to use its own messages for this – couldn't it just use WikiEditor's messages? But I guess CodeMirror is used for more than just WikiEditor, so it probably needs to use its own messages.

@happy5214 I added a couple points in the description to make it clearer how to reproduce this. The issue is that when syntax highlighting is on, it for some reason uses the messages codemirror-keymap-bold/codemirror-keymap-italic (which aren't yet translated into Czech), whereas WikiEditor without syntax highlighting uses the messages wikieditor-toolbar-tool-bold-example/wikieditor-toolbar-tool-italic-example, which are translated into Czech.

The redirect behaviour is a feature, not a bug: The language code no is a macrolanguage that consists of nb and nn, so it should not be a target of any translations. The redirecting wasn't always the case in MediaWiki, which explains the existence of some translatable pages using the no language code (though I don't see any such for [[Stewards/Elections]]? Where did you encounter a link to it with &language=no?). CentralNotice translations are a bit messy because they can be added in two ways: Normally via Special:Translate, which would perform the coercion from no to nb seamlessly, but they can also be added by directly editing the relevant pages in the CNBanner namespace, which seems to have been the case for those 2022 banner messages.

I wasn't aware of this task when I filed the above bug, but it is the same thing AFAICT. Please reopen if I'm wrong. :-)

I had a chat with @Ladsgroup about this here at the hackathon, and he said there might be some unintended consequences because of other things depending on SiteMatrix. So I'll abandon the patch and mark this as "stalled" for now – like I said, no rush.

This is a result of how the language was removed in T333765: Remove Akan support from MediaWiki, ULS, and Wikimedia servers. I think a solution is for us to add it to wmgExtraLanguageNames in InitialiseSettings.php.

If it is not an official Wikimedia project any more, I don't think it should be shown there. But there might be good reasons to keep it there, at least for a while, so I'll leave the timing of this to someone else (there's no rush to remove it, I think).

@Lucas_Werkmeister_WMDE suggested adding CSS to hide sitelinks to Wikinews in the WikimediaCustomization extension.

I can't see that this has mentioned yet: I would strongly advise that the preferred languages be made into a global preference if the GlobalPreferences extension is installed.

I think the patch I added above should fix the issue, but since I don't know how to reproduce the symptoms locally, I don't know whether it will actually fix the issue.
