🦋 Personality

1. Has your character always believed in magic? Do they have something influencing their perspective on the supernatural/metaphysical/spiritual from their past? How do they feel about magic?
Mishima would not call himself a believer in magic. He would, in fact, call himself a "skeptic" or an "intellectual." However, when after the Phantom Thieves posted their calling cards all over his school, and later Kamoshida himself confessed to all the crimes and abuses he'd committed, Mishima was one of the first to believe in them. I think this was due to how well he knew Kamoshida and how utterly outside the realm of possibility such a change even was. There simply was no way such a personality shift could happen by natural means. He might not understand exactly how the phantom thieves do it, but he doesn't need or even want to know their methods. Whether it's through divine intervention, supernatural brain powers, or psychedelic ego death, Mishima knows that whatever they do, it's Real and it Works. Any other magic, religion, or superstition has to be at least half as reliable as that for Mishima to give it the time of day. (165 words)


2. What mythological creature would your character most like to be? Which do they identify with? Which would they dread being? Feel free to use our Bestiary for reference.
I think the creature Mishima would most dread becoming might also be the one he most relates to - the olsen. The bestiary describes it as a spirit that causes all the little inconveniences in a household, and mentions that it is invisible to most humans. Being a burden is definitely Mishima's biggest fear and the way that he never stands out is a major theme with those who bully him. He constantly is berating himself for being a "useless zero" throughout the game until the end of his confidant route. Right now, he'd certainly like to see himself as something recognizable and famous like a Griffin or something unmistakably heroic like a Valkyrie. In fact, even though gender may complicate his feelings, being a Valkyrie who decides who dies in a battle would be very ideal - surely he could be an asset to the Phantom Theives with that kind of power! He might even be able to change the world himself. With his luck, though, if Mishima took a potion that transformed him into a creature from the Bestiary that suited his personality best, he would probably get..... human.(190 words)


3. What song would a siren sing to your character to lure them closer? Why?
Let's be clear, most songs would probably work on Mishima. This guy has a willpower score of like, -3. But for this question, "Pokemon" by Wet Leg would be a perfect song. There's genuine affection in it: "Nothing hits like you and me/ "I love you," I say casually", but the song is also VERY horny. And, frankly, so is Mishima. The repeated lyric "Isle of Wight to Tokyo" in the chorus could even be interpreted as referencing a long distance relationship, since he's from tokyo. His fantasy of the song would be this: he has a long-distance friendship with a nerdy girl from the UK and when they finally meet, she initiates the shift from "friends" to "lovers." In reality, this song might be at least partly how Mishima feels about his One Friend, Ren. (lyrics: Tell me what you want, I'll be what you want / You just gotta choose me, baby, yeah, I'll be your Pokémon) But he would NEVER admit it, not even to himself. (169 words)(nice)


4. If there's one person your character would follow to another realm, who would it be and why? If there's no one, state that and explain why.
Without a doubt, it would be Ren or Akira or whatever name the Persona 5 Royal protag goes by. Ren and the Phantom Thieves saved Mishima from Kamoshida, and then Ren continued to befriend him even after learning that he was the one who leaked Ren's criminal record to the school. During his confidant route, he makes sure to consult with and talk to Ren about each new move he makes with regards to the Phansite, and usually will listen to Ren's advice. His constant desire is to be valuable to Ren (and the Phantom Thieves in general), to the point where he prioritizes that over his own health and safety. If Mishima knew Ren was leaving, he'd gladly follow his classmate to the ends of the earth. At his current cannon point, Mishima has lost sight of the original purpose of the Phan-Site, sending threats to haters and only using it as a vehicle to gain fame for the Phantom Thieves, and by extension, himself and without Ren, his sole connection to the thieves, Mishima would be without purpose again, in a world where everything else has rung hollow.
