The Good and the Bad

When my husband and I went to Scarborough Faire last weekend I was very startled when passing the bookstore to see Conner standing inside and a table covered with Peter's books. I had no idea that was was going to be doing a signing that day. I also didn't realize that the first comic was out, so it really made my day to get it signed and talk a little with Peter and Conner.

What I didn't like hearing though was that Peter was declined as a guest at Dragon*Con this year. They gave Conner some kind of form letter simply stating that Peter didn't fit with what they were trying to do. WTF? I've only been to Dragon*Con twice but both times I've been there and Peter did a book reading every seat was filled and people were standing against the walls. Plus people from several different tracks have requested Peter be on their board, not realizing that Peter isn't even going to be there. I really don't get it, and it kinda pisses me off. I figured this would be one of the few places that I could rant a bit and you all would understand.

Bay Area Fans: Giant Bones play adaptation 5/7 - 6/19/2010

Peter's of print book, Giant Bones (set in the world of The Inn Keeper's Song) has been adapted into a play by Stuart Bousel. It'll be showing at the Exit Theatre between May 7 and June 19.

I saw a sneak-peek segment at The Last Unicorn screening, and it was pretty intense. Tickets are only between $15-30, and as a bonus, everyone that attends the regular run gets a signed hardcopy of Giant Bones. Anyone who's in the area, please help make the play run a success!

Anyone heard anything lately..?

Has anyone received any recent updates about the The Last Unicorn audiobook CD and Two Hearts deal from back in 2005 ? From what I remember it's been a long time since the last official update on all the unfortunate troubles concerning it.

I emailed Conlan Press the other day and I'm waiting on a reply. If I get one, I'll add it to my post for you all. :)

New "THE LAST UNICORN" comic from IDW!

Hey fellow Peter fans! There is a NEW comic about to be released for the "The Last Unicorn." He is directing the writing, and the graphic art is done by an incredible husband/wife team.  He can also sign copes and write a personal message too! This is the cool company that represents Peter with all honesty so if you want to buy anything Peter, DVDs or books, buy it here! This is the link to his official newsletter and also where you can buy the comics and all his other books, movies, etc. When you buy Peter stuff from here he gets credit so support him!

Question

I was wondering if anybody could help me, I'm looking for a book which Peter has written the forward for. Some of you may have come across this quote whilst trawling across the internet, it was apparently a forward to an edition of Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. Would anybody be able to tell me which edition of the Fellowship of the Ring, (publisher, year, ISBN, anything) this quote came from? I've already done a bit of searching but so far I've come up empty. Thank you in advance for your help.

FYI, The quote is as follows:

"For in the end it is Middle-Earth and its dwellers that we love, not Tolkien's considerable gifts in showing it to us. I said once that the world he charts was there long before him, and I still believe it. He is a great enough magician to tap our most common nightmares, daydreams and twilight fancies, but he never invented them either: he found them a place to live, a green alternative to each day's madness here in a poisoned world. We are raised to honor all the wrong explorers and discoverers - thieves planting flags, murderers carrying crosses. Let us at last praise the colonizers of dreams."

I'm Afraid You've Got Dragons

Hey all,

I didn't get any videos of Peter S Beagle at Dragon*Con this year, but I finally figured out what was wrong with my video camera, so here are two more from last year that I thought I'd share (jump back to September 2007 if you missed my original video post and are curious). The first one is Peter reading the prologue from "I'm Afraid You've Got Dragons" and the second one is him talking about the plot a bit. The sound is still pretty quiet, but at least it's there!
