[a filter for anyone whose apparent age is under… maybe 23… aside from Esther (who really doesn't want to deal with it)]
[For weeks, she’s been asking herself questions that she can never formulate when she wants to give a final answer, but it's quiet around her now at work and Chromie is too busy wearing herself out in the CES to make sure that she does work. Text is smarter: it can be only as emotional as she wants to make it, and people can understand if she's slower to respond. Twenty people answering her at once will intimidate her and push her to pushing them away, and that’s the last thing that Touko wants, is to be left out yet again.]
We came to this ship to pay for some predetermined sins or encourage someone else to atone for theirs. We clearly aren’t children anymore if we’re being held accountable for something beyond ourselves, so why do we still want to be children? I see a lot of people trying to behave like this is an alternative school for wardens and inmates both, and lately the ship itself is encouraging us by the places it takes us or the water it takes on.
Think about it. We usually land in places where we have to fight the earth itself to survive, but I heard most people making plans for fun at the last port. Even last week, no one planned further ahead than finding the next pillow to complete a creation. The worst we thought could happen is we would be knocked a few feet to the floor to pick ourselves up again. Everyone came back safe both times, but the Admiral's gifts normally have needles hidden in the center.
I don't think any of us are stupid enough to not understand the dangers we're constantly exposed to, so I don't understand why we play along and even come up with more ways to amuse ourselves. Why are we trying not to hate this place? What is it anyone really wants out of being here?

Date: 2014-09-03 02:26 am (UTC)I didn't ask for it either. It's not like there's anything left going back to, but that doesn't mean I'm going to go quietly into whatever this place wants.

Date: 2014-09-02 09:55 pm (UTC)Also, how goddamn boring would it be to sit around and glare distrustingly at everything that came our way? I don't know about you, but I can't stay permanently mad for more than two days. Three, tops.
We're not dumb. We know shit's out there that could kill us. I just don't let it affect my having a good time.
Hatred is fucking exhausting.
cw; oh look mindy's going to be a horrible antigay douche again

[ Because that's what her life is. An empty room with a set of honor and hate. ]
[ And yes, she is fucking exhausted all the goddamn time. ]

Date: 2014-09-03 12:47 am (UTC)None of us are behaving like children on a regular basis. Aside from the behavior during the pillow for flood that was obviously an effect of the flood itself, we all know what our responsibilities are. We all understand why we're here.
That being said, just because we are here, it doesn't mean we can't attempt to have something that reminds us of what a normal life would be like back home. Just because we want to plan events and socialize with each other, it doesn't make our job easier, or less important.
Why hate this place, when we can make the whole experience slightly easier on everyone on board?
[Yes, someone is defensive. You don't mess with her planning.]

Date: 2014-09-03 02:48 am (UTC)Someone always swallows one when there are. You've been here long enough to know that, and I know you aren't stupid or you would have left because it was too hard for you.
But why bother to pretend this is anything like home? When you do go there, you'll be so changed that it won't be like home anymore.

Date: 2014-09-03 03:27 am (UTC)I'm not one to let little things drag me down. I'm certainly not stupid. Nor am I weak because I like having fun when this place gives us a break.
You're missing the point. It's not about pretending this is home. It's about giving us all something to enjoy and look forward to instead of leaving everyone to sulk in their corners and fight with each other because they are sick of being here. It's a distraction.

I don't want to be a child. Part of being an adult, to me, is having the means to make my own happiness.

Anger is the one emotion she's comfortable expressing face-to-face, and when her only outlet has had the emotional resonance of a bag of dead leaves for almost a year, it's a substitute for a lot of other feelings.
But notice there's an "us" there for once.]
