CineKink Brings Festival of Kinky Films to Portland

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

CineKink: PDX makes its brazen appearance November 1-3, 2007, featuring a three-night run of films and videos that explore and celebrate a wide diversity of sexuality.

A touring version of "the really alternative film festival" held annually in New York, the event will be presented by CineKink, an organization dedicated to the recognition and encouragement of sex-positive and kink-friendly depictions in film and television. Works presented at CineKink: PDX will range from documentary to drama, mildly spicy to quite explicit - and everything in between.

Among the CineKink: PDX headliners, first up, on Thursday, November 1 at 7 PM, is "Vice and Consent," a documentary visit with such prominent, long-standing members of the BDSM community as Midori, Jay Wiseman and Cleo Dubois. Then, at 9 PM, "Webcam Girls" is a funny and engaging visit with four outspoken pioneers of the girlcam frontier.

On Friday, November 2 at 7:00 PM, it's "Power Plays," short works that probe, prod and play with the dynamics of sexual power and fantasy, followed at 9:00 PM by "Passion Plays," a collection of erotic, sometimes explicit pieces that dance along the supposed boundary of art, including the banned-in-Australia documentary, "Damon and Hunter." Rounding out the evening will be an 11:00 PM screening of "Pornology New York," a paean to the New York sexual underground, circa 1970-85, that brings together four of its most colorful protagonists.

On Saturday, November 3, at 7:00 PM, the drama "Going Under" traces the relationship of a married psychotherapist and a professional dominatrix he's been frequenting. And the festival wraps everything up at a 9:00 PM with a screening of the "Best of CineKink," a program of award-winning shorts deemed the best of the festival's most recent NYC appearance.

CSTS: Only 5 Days Left

JOSS WHEDON ON EQUALITY NOW:

"There are two ways to fight a battle like ours. One is to whisper in the ear of the masses, try subtlely and gradually to change the gender expectations and mythic structures of our culture. That's me. The other is to step up and confront the thousands of atrocities that are taking place around the world on an immediate, one-by-one basis. That's a great deal harder, and that's Equality Now. It's not about politics; it's about basic human decency."

Portland Serenity Charity Screening Update

We're coming up on the Can't Stop the Serenity screenings, so here's the latest announcement on the Portland event.

We're pleased to announce that Scott Allie -- Joss Whedon's editor at Dark Horse Comics -- will be our guest for the Friday night screening. Among other things, Allie worked on Serenity: Those Left Behind and the forthcoming Serenity: Better Days, and edits the current Buffy: Season 8 series. Our thanks to Allie for wanting to help make this year's events in the Portland of Oregon, birthplace of the charity screenings movement, even better than last year.

Doors open for pre-screening activities at 7:00 PM [Friday, June 22 at Portland's Hollywood Theatre] and programming begins at 8:00 PM. Tickets are $13 in advance and $18 at the door on the day of show, and are available online or at the Hollywood Theatre box office.
