But birth is also big business. Compelled to explore the subject after the delivery of her first child, actress Ricki Lake recruits filmmaker Abby Epstein to question the way American women have babies. The film interlaces intimate birth stories with surprising historical, political and scientific insights and shocking statistics about the current maternity care system. When director Epstein discovers she is pregnant during the making of the film, the journey becomes even more personal. Should most births be viewed as a natural life process, or should every delivery be treated as a potentially catastrophic medical emergency?

Welcome Parents of CT!

This Community was created at 19:00 on Tuesday, March 18th, 2003.

Welcome everyone! This community was created to give parents in connecticut a place to post their discussions. There are no rules concerning what can be discussed, and you don't have to be a parent from Connecticut to join. In other words: parents-to-be, young-parents, pregnant teens, and anyone else interested in these discussions are free to join.
Posting of pictures is encouraged! We love to see pictures!
The only thing the maintainers of this community ask is to use -lj-cut- if you make a very long post.
Thank you! Post away!
