Many of us remember the original OWED community as a nearly 'anything goes' sort of place. We could speak candidly and ask for advice or support without having to toe a line. Almost nobody in there seemed to be looking to recovery and most people were happy with the community overall. However, a few years ago, a new moderator took over and many new rules, most of which were ridiculous, were instated, and if they weren't followed perfectly, the poster was cursed out and banned from the community. This quickly lead to many long-time members of the community leaving, and eventually, the collapse of the community as a whole.
Since then, similar spin-offs have popped up, but had new rules and were very shabby copies of the original OWED. Many of those communities had moderators who, even though made the community specifically for people with eating disorders, seemed to want to steer the majority of joiners towards recovery.
Here, we're not that interested in recovery. We want to reach our goal weights, and we're willing to go the distance to do so. You're allowed to discuss your fasting, binging and purging, heavy restriction, laxatives, results, slip ups, et cetera, without fear of having your post deleted because it may offend someone. If something offends you, scroll past it and don't comment on it. We all have the same goal, but may have different ways of getting there.
Rules
1. If you post picture, please post them behind an LJ cut. We prefer excessively long posts are cut too, but sometimes you don't realise how long something is so it's not a necessity. However, all pictures must be posted behind an LJ cut. To learn how to LJ cut, visit the LiveJournal FAQ here: http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=75
2. Because eating disorders are listed as an adult concept, you must be 18 years and older to be approved for membership. Please make your date of birth visible in your user information. Once approved, pleas keep at least the year of birth in your profile.
3. Your journal must be at least one month old. If your journal is new, please wait until it is a month old before joining the community.
4. This community is for people who already have eating disorders and not for people who are looking for tips and tricks on developing one. If you're looking to diet, please look elsewhere.
5. Upon membership approval, please post the following:
Name: Age: Eating Disorder: Self or clinically diagnosed: Height: Lowest Weight: Highest Weight and BMI: Current Weight and BMI:
You must have/had a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 25 or over sometime in your life in order to qualify as overweight and eating disordered. However, even if you fit that criteria and your current BMI is lower than 22.5, you will be denied.
You do not have to list your real name, but your age must be no lower than 18 and your height and weight measurements must be accurate
6. No trolls, please! If you're not a troll and you see one, don't feed it. This means do not perpetuate drama. In addition, don't post negative comments to someone's entry, don't make catty entries, and don't harass other members. If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything - a good rule of thumb here. The best thing you can do if you see a post that you think is stupid is either kindly correct them, ask questions, or move on. Just imagine when people say something like "Your hair looks stupid. What?! I'm just being honest!" Honesty and being a nasty bitch aren't the same things.
7. We are pro-ED. We don't care if you use terminology like 'ana' and 'mia' just as long as you understand that anorexia and bulimia are real problems. (Note! Anorexia is clinically defined as having a BMI of 16.9 and under while starving oneself! If you're a member of this community, you are not anorexic, even if you starve yourself. You are considered EDNOS (eating disorder not otherwise specified).) However, we do not promote anorexia, bulimia, or other eating disorders are a glamorous way of life, which is why this community has hidden posts and only adults are allowed to join. Eating disorders are serious and can continue on long after someone has met their goal weight, because it's not a diet. If you have a problem with the pro-ED outlook, this is not the community for you.
