Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
Green is 5'10 1/2" and athletic; he's well toned, not exactly bulky with muscle but still muscular.
2. How old is he?
Nineteen (let's say; I write him at different age points).
3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch?
Green can slouch when he sits in his chair; he tries to be mindful of it, but sometimes these reports, they're just so boring. He's never ramrod-straight (unless he's trying to impress someone) but his shoulders are usually back, and he carries himself with a lot of panache.
4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
He's quite fit; he runs over a mile almost every morning and does strength training with his pokemon several times a week. He has a tendency towards being farsighted and over time will have to wear glasses when he reads. Besides that, he's healthy.
5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
He has an easy fluidity when he moves; his back is relatively straight, shoulders swaying, he moves with a lot of confidence. The way he moves can hold your attention. He's not super physical, but he has a tendency to run his fingers along things as he travels—tabletops, walls, stair railings.
6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror?
Ahahahah. At least in my opinion he is really fucking attractive. And he knows it, and does his best to be as handsome as possible all the time. He cares about his appearance quite a bit.
7. Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
Light skinned, but he can get pretty tanned in the summer, with freckles on his shoulders and dusting across the bridge of his nose. He has relatively perfect complexionthat lucky jerk.
8. Describe his hair: color, texture, style.
Reddish-brown hair that can shade darker or lighter depending on the amount of sun exposure and season and things. He keeps it well maintained so it's soft, but it's also spiky as fuck because Green started doing it when he was a kid and still loves that hairstyle, he doesn't give a damn how unfashionable it is. He rocks that hairstyle. Even though it must take him like half an hour every morning or something.
9. What color are his eyes?
Green. Lighting and clothing can bring out different shadings of green, but it's 100% green.
10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
He's pretty normal.
11. What are his chief tension centers?
Shoulders he gets knots in his shoulders and down the length of his spine and they hurt like a bitch when he's super super stressed. He loves hot showers.
12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit?
Green cares a lot about how he looks. He doesn't have a gaudy or flashy manner of dress, and his clothing is fairly utilitarian. He likes to cultivate his own style and actually spends a lot of time thinking about it, though he spends minimal time shopping. I feel like he's the kind of person who immediately knows what he likes when he shops, and he's totally okay with dropping a lot of money on an article of clothing if it's worth the price in terms of quality and he likes it. I feel like he looks back on what he wore as a traveling trainer and facepalms a lot.
13. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them?
His clothes fit well, yeah. He's comfortable in anything he wears, because he owns his sense of style. He doesn't like borrowing clothing from anybody—to a degree his clothing is his armor—and if he likes you enough to let you borrow his clothing, it means a lot. Partially because he's automatically picky and protective of his things, and partially because it means he actually sort of trusts you.
14. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences?
He dresses the same pretty much. He'll dress down somewhat when he's notabout to go mountaineering after work working that day, but it's still his own style: loose jeans, patterned shirts. When he has to go to league events he suits up.
15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?
Boxer briefs. :)
Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
He's got a lovely baritone voice, with a lot of inflection. His emotions are given away pretty easily by his tone, but there's almost always a veneer of irony, sarcasm, or self-deprecation over everything he says. It takes a lot to make that go away; he hates being honest.
2. How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate?
He tends to speak a little slower than a normal urbanite, with a rolling, amused lilt to his voice. He communicates really well on every frequency possible—hand gestures, posture, facial expression, and tone, as well as the words he says. He's actually fairly transparent if you're actually watching him, and he knows it, and he tries to mask it as hard as he can (he's not always good at it, though he can fool people who don't know him well). Because of that, he speaks easily, but often tries to keep conversations limited to everyday-important or meaningless topics. If he's not careful, he can say the most terrible or callous things (only to facepalm the moment it leaves his mouth); so as a result he tries to have his guard up when he talks to people he's not close to. This has all been an attempt for me to answer that last question—basically, while it doesn't sound like he's hesitating, it sounds like he has a glib answer for everything, he's actually trying to self-police every second of every day.
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
He has a slight "country" accent, since he grew up in a small town. When he was younger/on his pokemon journey he really hated it, he felt like it made him different and that people didn't take him seriously. However, he's grown to accept it over time, and now he doesn't mind it at all; in fact, sometimes he uses it to his advantage nowwhen trying to pick up chicks. However, because he worked so hard to erase his accent when he was younger, there's really only a hint of it left; just enough to be intriguing. His small town origins are also why he speaks a tiny bit slower than most of his trainers do. He can stammer sometimes when he's flustered.
4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency?
Just whatever they speak on JohtoKanto; in my headcanon, it's Japanese.
5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
His accent intensifies a lot when he's really, really angry. It intensifies slightly when he's really upset/stressed/exhausted/having sex. He can intentionally thicken it to a ridiculous agree if trolling requires it.
6. Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words?
He's a great impromptu speaker, partially because he's naturally clever. But if he's not careful his tongue is set to a default mode of "fairly sharp and mildly insulting" so sometimes he can get tangled up when he censors himself too much. He can be caught flat-footed, but after a second of a completely blank expression he can usually come up with something. It just may not always...be that great. (God I hope that made sense.)
7. Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
He's usually pretty eloquent, but he's also pretty easy to fluster in a way? He has this Big Red Button, you see.
Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart?
He's really smart, man. He started out really really book-smart, but his journey taught him how to be street-smart. So I think he's pretty good at both.
2. Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate?
It depends. He thinks on his feet nearly constantly and to a degree even enjoys it; he loves battling, after all, and he likes to get into pointless troll fights with people. If it's something he knows he can handle, he'd rather be impromptu about it; but for things that are really important, he will always try to deliberate first. His fast temper and poor judgements have gotten him into bad situations more than once, and he's a person who learns from his mistakes.
3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
He has a tendency towards intuition and impulsivity that he is constantly battling with logic. Although he masks this and now has a tendency to look before he leaps, his gut always tells him to leap, every damn time. It's just that leaping has gotten him into so much trouble when he was younger that now, even when he should leap, he can sometimes have a hard time allowing himself to do it. This can drop suddenly depending on situation; he's a mixture of impulse and strategy when he fights, he reads people's body language/tells really closely and reacts to them without thinking when talking or fighting with someone. Green is idealistic at heart, but hides it like crazy. He appears to be Ultra Practical, to the point of sometimes seeming pessimistic.
4. What kind of education has the character had?
Up through fifth grade..., but he got his GED (or high school diploma/certificate) after he became gym leader, because he felt it was important, and now takes college courses online. Stay in school, kids.
5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about?
Battling, petrology, gym management, league politics, pokemon behavioral and evolutionary sciences, battling. He'd love to learn more about anthropology, though he's not particularly interested in the mythology aspect and is more interested in the hard science aspects of it—he thinks Red's aerodactyl is way cooler than he will ever let on (but Red knows anyway). He'd also love to learn more about petrology and geology (petrology is just the study of rocks). And of course, you can never stop learning as a pokemon trainer. He never stops trying to think of ways to improve his battling skill or help his pokemon be even better.
6. Is he an introvert or an extrovert?
An extrovert who regularly needs time alone so he can decompress. If he's around people 24/7 for too long it will stress him out.
7. Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?
Green is pretty emotional, but he tries hard to hide it. He can seem pretty mellow but he can lose his temper quickly, especially with people he knows well/who know how to push his buttons, and especially when he's exhausted. However, if you really hurt him he has a tendency to clam up and storm off. If left to his own devices he's incredibly even-keeled, with a tendency to shade towards melancholy if he's not doing something. (Green tries always to be doing something. He almost thrives on being stressed out. He's the kind of person who complains constantly while mowing through mountains of paperwork, and even enjoys it on some subconscious masochistic level.) I would never describe him as "cheerful," but he's pretty good-natured and likes to laugh and make others laugh; he's a pretty great listener and he can cheer you up if you're feeling down, assuming he's not pissed off or something. HE IS SO DRIVEN, HE IS THE MOST DRIVEN PERSON EVER, Green's ambitious nature could probably power a small country; he doesn't know how to stop trying to better himself.
8. How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
The word that comes to mind is "casual." Green knows he's awesome; he doesn't feel the need to prove himself to you or anyone, so he treats everybody the same, basically; friendly, relaxed, in a way that tries to make you let your guard down. He hates the awkward not-really-friends-yet zone. He tries to get through it with everyone as quickly as possible. He's outgoing, so he'll try to talk to people about things he knows they're interested in. He's actually kind of a social butterfly.
9. Is he more likely to act, or to react?
He reacts A TON, but he's pretty likely to act, too. He doesn't know how to stop, like I said before. He's forever starting things. He likes to have the first move so that he can set the stage for people's reactions.
10. Which is his default: fight or flight?
Fight. Show me your teeth, Green.
11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?
Green has two types of humor, and both are variations on "sarcastic humor." If he's just kidding around, he tends to have a pretty off-the-cuff somewhat trolling humor where he likes poking at all the things that are strange or weird in a situation. If he's at a moment where he's more exposed, or where he feels like you're a person who he can let his guard down around, he reveals a more dry, self-deprecating or deflecting humor where he tries to minimize everything, because he's actually trying to be honest but he doesn't know how.
12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them?
Not that I can think of. He still has a chip on his shoulder to a degree, but it's not a serious thing.
13. What moments in this character's life have defined his as a person?
So damn many. Meeting Eevee and leaving for his pokemon journey. Becoming champion. Losing the championship. Talking to Leaf again for the first time after losing the championship. Becoming Gym leader. Returning to Pallet town. Finding Red on Mt. Silver. The moment where he realizes that he's in love (if that happens or has happened in what I'm writing).
14. What does he fear?
Not being enough. Being left behind. Losing people or pokemon who are close to him.
15. What are his hopes or aspirations?
They're not so well-defined as they were when he was a kid; he loves his life, actually. In general, his aspiration is to always be better; to try to learn everything or do everything in the fields he chooses. As for hopes, he'd love to visit every region, and he wants to find someone to settle down with actually (he's pretty traditional).
16. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him?
He's constantly trying to appear flawless, even though he has thousands of cracks in his armor if you know him well.
Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with his parents.
AHAHAHHAHA OH GOD. He doesn't remember his real parents well, but what he remembers is pretty not great, in a confusing-emotional-four-year-old way. He grew up struggling to please his grandfather and never succeeded, which led to a strained relationship on both sides. How that plays out depends on what fic I'm writing, but it ranges from Oak actually thinks he's pretty useless and Green rages at not being loved, or Oak just being really thoughtless and always caught up in his work and Green pleading for Oak to see him and accept him. To this day, Green tries to avoid his grandfather as much as possible; they don't have a particular beef, but it just drags up Green's childhood and he tries to make that Not Happen as much as possible.
2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?
Daisy is half-mom, half-sister to him. Green tried hard when he was younger to push her away because he wanted to be independent and prove that he didn't need anyone, and that he was strong enough to do everything himself. As he's gotten older, however, he's gotten over that. They totally have heart-to-heart phone conversations where they tell each other the things they can't say to anyone else. They're close. Green visits her at least once a month; he'd visit more if he could, but Gramps :/. If she ever moves out and gets married, that would be pretty interesting for him.
3. Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand?
Pretty much that's all he's got.
4. Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them?
Red and Leaf!! But this is a really complicated question and I'm not even sure what to say. Let's talk about Leaf for now, I guess. Leaf is his absolute best best friend (as is Red). I guess in homestuck terms she'd be his morail? She totally has his number, and while that's sometimes terrifying for him, he also can't imagine anyone replacing her in his life ever. They joke around and bother each other and would defend the other to the death, I think. Leaf means so much to him.
5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?
Red and Leaf, childhood friends until the end~
6. Does he have other close friends?
In my headcanon he wanders Hoenn for a year and befriends May and, through her, Brendan. He's bros with Brock because the two of them have a lot in common, and they just generally jive really well together. Though he and Brock don't really talk about relationships or really serious things, he knows they've got each other's back.
7. Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people?
He makes acquaintances almost as easily as breathing, but he makes very, very few real friends.
8. Which does he consider more important: family or friends?
If he considers you a real "friend," there's really no distinction between these two. You are his family. It's a level of trust that he almost never gives out.
9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once?
Single or dating, depending on where I'm writing him.
10. Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?
Nope. It's unlikely that he'd do such a thing.
11. Who was his first crush? Who is his latest?
Depends on who I'm pairing him with, but my default is that his eternal love is Red. Leaf would be someone he has a crush on when he's a kid, it freaks him out and he treats her terribly, and then it goes away for a while, and then years later when they start to talk again, wow, what a woman, and she sweeps him off his feet. Red's story is a little different, but I've told it roughly ten thousand times and I won't go into it again here.
12. What does he look for in a romantic partner?
As I said on another meme once, someone who's both physically and mentally attractive; a challenge, someone who gives back as good as they get; an intelligent and independent person; someone who, like him, is never really satisfied (but could, maybe, be satisfied with him).
13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any?
He is really grateful that he doesn't have any children or grandchildren right now. He might want children later maybe? He really would rather not think about this oh god.
14. Does he have any rivals or enemies?
AHAHAHAH RED. RED. OH MAN. Red pushes, and Green pulls. The two of them force each other to new levels of skill and ability that they would never have imagined or attained alone. Green really likes Red, and then feels like he has to defeat Red, and then really hates Red for a few years, and then realizes that he...actually doesn't hate Red at all. It's a mess. Green and Red are a beautiful mess. ♥
15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the Kinsey scale?
He presents as a cishet person most of the time. On the kinsey scale he's probably a 1.5, although that can shade higher depending on how I feel like writing him.
16. How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him?
Green isn't a virgin, and he likes sex. He likes to get laid, but he can also go for long spans of time where he's just too busy to bother. He's not shy or embarrassed by sex, although he's classy? He doesn't kiss and tell, he treats his partners well even if they're just one-night stands (which they almost always are). He's dated around a bit but he's never found enough to really hold his interest, so it's all really casual.
17. What are his turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?
Uh, turn-ons are fighting for dominance and rough sex mostly. He'd probably make an earnest attempt at anything adventurous his partner brought up, but I don't think he'd never bring up anything himself, and more extreme kinks are probably a no for him. He always sleeps on the same side of the bed, but that's not really that weird, is it.
Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (zodiac of choice) sign? How well does he fit type?
His birthday in pokespe is November 22, which puts him as Scorpio on the cusp of Sagittarius. This fits him perfectly.
2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life?
He follows Shinto. It's not something he actively thinks about, but it's always something he considers. He has a tiny shrine in the corner of his gym, for example. Just little things everywhere, casually.
3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?
This isn't really stuff he thinks about, but he knows right from wrong. He was a bully as a child, and still has bullying tendencies somewhat that are just mellowed into more harmless trolling. He'll only help someone if he thinks they deserve it; he doesn't believe into wading into things that aren't his business just because someone is doing something he doesn't approve of, because he thinks that people should be able to take care of themselves (after all, he did). I guess the best way to describe his ethics are "You don't bother me, I don't bother you. And trust me, you don't want me to bother you." The exception is pokemon. If someone is mistreating pokemon and he learns about it he will end them. (That's partially an overreaction stemming from the fact that he could have done more to help stop Team Rocket and didn't, and he still feels sort of guilty about it.)
4. How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
He's pretty freaking indifferent. He can be curious when it relates to people who are closer to him, but he'd never ask or pry. I am not sure he is aware of trans* things, so I guess if that cropped up he'd be a little startled and curious at first? But then it would just go back to him treating that person the way he treats everyone else, because he really doesn't care that much. In general his indifference can probably lead to him doing Dumb Things, and then he feels terribly awkward about it and apologizes, and then tries not to do it in the future; but it's more about politeness than actually caring about the person's beliefs. Idk.
5. What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them?
He pretty much wants to fight with anyone who thinks that evil teams are great. Besides that, idk. He's pretty chill with everything.
Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?
Definitely comfortable. He's always been at least comfortable, and often quite wealthy. I think that he sank a lot of money into the gym in its early years to get it renovated, but he's probably recovered from that financial hit.
2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him?
He's kind of famous—I mean, he used to be Kanto league champion, and is now the strongest gym leader in Kanto. (He likes being famous 90% of the time, btw, though seeing how fame affects Red is something that gives him a lot of food for thought.) Obviously he had sort of a rise to famousness and then it's slowly diminished; and I think both of these things were good for him. His social status confers a lot of respect to him, but what's best is that it's respect that he's mostly earned through his talent and hard work. Because of that, it's a source of pride and confidence for himself, and probably what helped most in changing his bullying bravado into self-assured confidence.
3. Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others?
He lives in a large two-bedroom apartment a few blocks away from the gym. It's definitely his castle; it's a warm, roomy, comforting space. He keeps it quite neat (except for the area around his desk, which he tries to keep orderly but usually ends up exploding), and he tends towards spartan furnishings; he likes space; the place feels roomy and open, with a tendency towards earth tones and white. He lives aloneexcept for eevee.
4. Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on?
Nice things. He buys good food, quality clothing. Pokemon supplies for his own team or for his trainers. He dumps money into the gym when necessary. Sometimes souvenirs when he travels for league business. He has an eye towards his future and tries to save and make good investments, too.
5. What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else?
Green is living his ideal life, although it took him a while to find it. He gets to troll trainers and battle every day and hang out with his pokemon. For a living! It doesn't get better than that for him. He's really good at it and is always working and studying to become even better.
axolotl once said that the true otp is Green/his gym; I ship this really hard.
6. What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time?
He works out, grows an herb garden, cooks, spends a lot of time wandering the internet reading and learning things, takes online courses, works to promote the league or support Viridian City whenever he can, hangs out with his friends and acquaintances, trains a lot, and listens to music. Sometimes he can pick up random hobbies just out of curiosity, do it for a few months, and then drop it. He is always doing something! If he doesn't have anything to do he gets really antsy.
7. What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?
Green doesn't like okra or peas. He tries really hard not to skip meals but sometimes does so accidentally. He drinks socially, or sometimes just to unwind after a stressful day. He can be a picky eater, but by that I don't mean he avoids specific foods—I mean he has a classy palate and wants to eat only really good food. He'll be polite and eat everything if necessary, but he'd prefer to eat really great food all the time.
Associations
Which of the following do you associate with the character, or which is his favorite:

3. Time of day? Sunset to twilight.
4. Season? Summer.
5. Book? Huh. I don't know. Siken's Crush maybe.

However, he's grown to accept it over time, and now he doesn't mind it at all; in fact, sometimes he uses it to his advantage now
4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency?
Just whatever they speak on JohtoKanto; in my headcanon, it's Japanese.
5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
His accent intensifies a lot when he's really, really angry. It intensifies slightly when he's really upset/stressed/exhausted/
He lives alone

I should probably redo this for Janine

By this I mean perhaps you should fill this out for another character and make me fall in love with them insteadno subject
... what does it mean by substance? I feel like that's a really weird question, lol.
no subject
I don't know, but I assumed it meant something like elements? I just couldn't figure out a good one for Green. I was trying to think of a metal that was strong, but could bend without breaking.
no subject
Hmm, what about Titanium?
no subject
You mean like the song?
Actually, I looked it up on wiki and it does seem to fit well! Titanium, then.
no subject
I actually thought of Titanium from the song but I did know a little about it before hand and I did look it up on Wikipedia :P Chemistry for the win.

I wish more people wrote non-cliched Red/Green fic so I could roll around in it. I want Red/Green AUs gdi. Or just...things that aren't about Red being on Mt. Silver and Green pining. That's a huge part of his life, yes, but it's not the only part. I want to read people's metas and just think about Green all the time. :( Why is Green Fangirl not a paying job I would make all the money.
You should fill this out for someone, it only took me like...two and a half hours ._.no subject
I WOULD FILL IT OUT BUT a) who b) what's an attention span
no subject
a) anyone you RP/really like? Karkat? Dave? Idk? b) It's actually pretty interesting to fill out if you like the character enough, though by the last two sections I was getting fatigued

I may have to steal this for my favorite Pokemon villains.
