Musical Clips

Hisashiburi da ze~ ^_^

From the Sakura Taisen musicals, here are some clips featuring Ikura Kazue, Takano Urara, and Tanaka Mayumi...

"Subarashiki Butai": From the third Kayou Show, a beautiful song by Leni (Ikura Kazue) with dancing by Sumire (Tomizawa Michie). She really belts it out near the end.

"Haru ga Kuru"/"Minami Kaze GO GO": Sakura (Yokoyama Chisa) sings about spring, but because it's summer, Kanna (Tanaka Mayumi) thinks her song about the southern winds is more appropriate. The two girls go back and forth in a song battle of sorts. It's surprising how well the two songs mesh towards the end, and Kanna's performance is very funny. ^_^

"Stone Monkey": A very fun song by Kanna and Maria (Takano Urara), from the Saiyuuki show.

"Subete wa Umi e": Everything flows to the sea... A duet between Maria the Sea God and Sakura the Land Princess from Kaijin no Bessou.

"Trump no Uraomote": This cheerful little song is very out of character for Leni, but that's what makes it so cute. From Shin Takarajima.

Hee!

I just had an extremely silly thought.

If Ogata-sama's new husband is thirteen years younger than she, that means he was about 14 years old (still in junior high) when Yuu Yuu Hakusho first aired in 1992.

So...don't you think that he probably would have been watching it? ^-^;

I bet he never dreamed that he would grow up and marry "Kurama" twelve years later. XD

Happy Wedding for You

Go-kekkon omedetou gozaimasu...to Ogata Megumi!

On April 1, Ogata-sama announced that she was recently married to a (yes, male) officer worker who is thirteen years her junior, and that they had been living together quietly for five years prior. (Unfortunately, the poor timing of her announcement led some of her fans to believe it was a joke.)

Honestly? I'm not really surprised. ^^; For a while, I've been wondering whether Ogata-sama might be like the Takarazuka otokoyaku, who keep their relationships with men secret even after they retire from the theater, so as not to spoil the beautiful illusion they created on stage. What I found most surprising was the age difference, but even that is...sasuga, oneesama!

I wish the new couple all the happiness in the world, and I hope that Ogata-sama will continue to make her beautiful illusions for the rest of us. ^^

CD Review: Stop, and Go

Fans who are anticipating another breezy pop-rock album from Ogata-sama will be disappointed – Stop, and Go is nothing like MO or "rain". In its varied, theatrical execution, Stop, and Go bears a marginal resemblance to Multipheno.

But this album often emphasizes message over musicality. Two or three of the more...unusual arrangements make me want to ask, "Oneesama, what the hell were you thinking?"

Still, I admire her convictions; I've never heard of a seiyuu making an overtly political album. And although she has written her own lyrics before, this time she has also composed much of the music, making this her most personal album yet.

Surprisingly, the liner notes are entirely in (poorly translated) English. This makes me wonder: Is she using English as a universal language to communicate her ideas to a wider audience, or is this album directed at American provocateurs of global conflict? The opening track features samples dialogue that sounds like a radio communication between two American soldiers, and the other tracks include an English translation of "can't go back my mission" as well as three American songs: a brief instrumental of "My Favorite Things" from The Sound of Music, the Bette Midler standard "From a Distance," and even the gospel classic "Oh, Happy Day."

I will post my impressions after I listen to the album again, and I'll translate her new songs as soon as I have the time. In the meantime, here are the liner notes and the new, English lyrics for "can't go back my mission."

The [sic] is implied throughout.

Dear someone somewhere in this world...Collapse )

Majo no takkyubin(Kiki's Delivery Service)..and not really OT!

Anyway, the main reason I decided to get the DVD was because the Japanese audio featured great seiyuu(Minami Takayama,Rei Sakuma,Kappei Yamaguchi,Yuuko Kobayashi,Kikuko Inoue,Mika Doi,Chika Sakamoto,Kouichi Yamadera,etc.).Now that I've seen that Hayao Miyazaki masterpiece,I have a question:It seems that Ket(to),the designer girl's nephew, sounded like he could have been voiced by otokoyaku.Since Chika Sakamoto(Hitoshi's Doi's cast list is incomplete, but cast/staff list has her in an unspecified role)has expertise in such voice roles,I'm going to take safe guess and say that she voiced Ket(to). Was she really Ket(to)'s seiyuu?
