Hi Guys,

Joined up a while ago, but not sure if I ever got around to making a post, so here I am! My name is Kasey (Kase), I'm a 21 year old from Victoria, Australia. I'm about to embark on my 4th year of my Bacherlor of Occupational Science and Therapy at Deakin University (http://www.deakin.edu.au).

The reason I'm posting tonight is that in addition to completing my 4th year undergrad units and fieldwork experience this year, I'm also embarking on my Honours year as well (rather than doing it as an additional year at next year). This means I'll be undertaking some original research and producing a 12,000 word thesis at the end of it all. To cut to the chase, what I'm wondering is whether anybody here would mind if I posted semi-regular updates on what I've been doing and some findings etc? I believe it'll help me keep track of what I've done and some of you might find it interesting, I don't know?

The topic is "Outcomes for families of a neurodevelopmental approach to therapy for children with cerebral palsy"...

Let me know if you'd be interested!? Thanks!

songs needed

I am about to leave a position of a group facilitator for a PHP for adults with mental illness, in some case dually diagnosed. My plan for termination is to burn a CD of inspirational/ motivational/ etc. songs. I will run a group using the CD as a backbone discussing each one of the songs, and then I intend on leaving the CD there for my clients after I leave, as a transitional object of sorts.
I am looking to you for help on making up the list of songs that I should use. Any and all help would be great.
THANX

First Post

I decided to finally make use of this community. I am starting to see more clients lately so I have a little more to contribute now. I am a 3rd year OT student, and for my fieldwork this semseter I have been visiting an assisted living facility.

One of my assignments at this site was to assess a resident using the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure. All was going well during the interview until this poor resident burst into tears. She was very distressed that she could no longer do the things that were meaningful to her, but due to resources and her medical condition it is difficult to make her wishes come true. Unfortunately, my role at the site is not to provide therapy but merely to observe and write papers, so there was nothing more I could do for her aside from offering suggestions to the program director.

Despite her upset, I feel it was a solid interview. I just wish that I knew how to be more comforting, yet retain my professionalism at the same time. On top of that, it didn't hit me until then how much influence you can have over someone else. I mentioned something that I consider mundane, but to her it was the end of the world that she couldn't do it anymore. The smallest things can be taken for granted.

Anyone else have an experience like this that they want to share? Have you ever had any successes or failures in your fieldwork? Don't be a stranger, come share!

advice please

Do any of you have any experience with anyone with a Narcissistic Personality D/O, or know of any good sources for me to look at.
I have a new client with this and I had one of the most trying half hours of my life. I was able to maintain my limits, even with is limit testing, and not giving him the satisfaction of getting a rise out of me, but it is *so* exhausting maintaining that posture.
Any and all help/ advice is welcome. And thank you for being a sounding board.
