Hey guys! Just wondering how everyone's getting on with their scripts? I'm sure you've all been really busy at school/college/wherever but we need to try and keep the community alive so please post things when you've done them so we can all see what each other's been up to!

Don't forget that you can write any bit of the script that you like - it doesn't matter if it's already been written by someone else or if you only want to do one or two bits or the whole thing! Don't worry about what other people will think of it either - we're all here to comment and help you out with any probs you might have.

'Hey guys don't know if anyones noticed yet or not but this is just a
quick note to say that I moved house in September to start my new life
as a full time dance student but there's been a slight hiccup in
getting online - unfortunately I don't have access to a personal PC
anymore so I'm reduced to library access only! This means I can only
get onto LiveJournal during the holidays when I'm at home (the library
won't let me go on the site for some strange reason!!) HOWEVER I hope

Normally scripts are 95 - 125 pages (1 1/2 to 2 hours)

Found that online. I had the website, but my browser closed it. I can find it again later if I need to.

Because I'm posting first, I didn't know if I was supposed to wait until the entire 2nd section (Howler, Advance Guard, Grimmauld Place, Hermione and Ron) was finished. Because that's a whole lot for one section. So I'm posting the Howler part, which is roughly six pages long. I realize that sounds long for this tiny thing, but when you think about it, I had to include Harry getting expelled since we're doing the hearing, had to include Voldemort because that's the whole reason Petunia gets the Howler. I can probably condense it if I need to, which I think I will considering we have a long ways to go.

Let me know if I'm breaking a rule. If I am, then I'll wait until the entire section is finished next time. I'm still having trouble with scene changes, though. Like when all the owls kept coming and going, does that count as new scenes? They're entering the scene, aren't they? I didn't know so I kept this all as one scene.

OK as we seem to have decided what should go and what should stay here is the list of sections. Remember you can pick and choose whichever sections you want to write but don't forget to put the section number at the top of your post!

Don't forget that you can add any extra bits that you feel would help your story - as long as the main points as indicated above are included it's all fine.

I know a few of you have been asking about script length but I'm afraid I've had no luck finding the whole 'no. of pages=time' thing so don't worry about it for now. Just concentrate on writing a good script then once it's all been put together we can always cut little bits if its too long. :)

A Quick Reminder!

If anyone hasn't had a chance to post their views on what should be included/excluded (see link below) please do so ASAP! I'm going to write up the official list on Sunday 5th Sept so if you have anything you want to make sure is included say so now or forever hold your peace!

Basically the sooner we get that sorted, the sooner we can really get cracking on this baby which I know you're all desperate to do! :)

I've not gone into too much detail here as I think we ought to just stick to what are key points in the plot - obviously you can add other bits when and wherever you like later on but for now we only want to agree on what can not possibly be left out.

Personally I think there are a couple of things in my list that could be left out if things are looking a little long time-wise (the ones with '???' after them!) but we can decide those things at a later date if neccessary.

To be honest, now that I've seen devilzsoup's first draft, I'm a little tentative about actually working on a scipt myself.

I'm a little curious, actually - how will this go about in the end?  Will people be aside pieces to do?  Will we take bits and pieces of each person's?</span>

In your opinion, what was the worst thing that Steve Kloves (script writer for films 1-4) did when writing the script for the films? Giving Ron's lines to Hermione, making Ron in the background with always scared faces. I wish canon Hermione would come back, who wears abecrombie at hogwarts?

Here is what I have so far, but before I get to that, I had a concern that I wanted to address.

For us, the book readers, we have known who Mrs. Figg is throughout the series. We have known her as the old lady who babysits Harry so for us, finding out she was a Squib was a complete shock. But for those who haven't read the books, Mrs. Figg comes from nowhere. No one knows who she is or where she came from because she was never brought up in the movies. Neither was the whole idea of Squibs so we couldn't really explain how she fits into anything (unless we have Harry play dumb and ask what a Squib is). I mean, do we just write around that and rely on Harry and Mrs. Figg's conversation to explain everything up until this point or do we try to find a way to write her out (avoids hundreds of copies of OotP being thrown). I know we're trying to save the book, but not including her sounds like something that the movie people would do. The fewer characters, the better. But I think it would be possible to not include her part while still staying true to the story.
