Writer's Block: Young and driven

What is the legal drinking age where you live? Do you think it should be higher, lower, or remain the same, and why?

The legal drinking age where I am, as I live in the U.S. is 21. Whether or not it should be higher or lower however, is a tricky question which merits the inclusion of several vital factors. These include the fact that teenagers who are well under the legal age limit can still get alcohol if they really wanted it, and telling them that you can't do this until a certain age just increases the temptation to see what the fuss is all about. Another is that often, when adults do reach the age of 21, they overindulge, and often risk damaging their health irreversably, just because drinking is portrayed as being something you have to do regardless of where you are, even at a zoo or at places like operas and other such events. Therefore, with that information serving as a way to better ponder, it's my belief that the age should be lowered again to 18, and discussing in earnest the effects instead of using scare tactics, as well as leading by example. You can't say 'Don't drink because it'll just hurt your health if you do.' and then imbibe yourself, because it creates a hypocritical message to impressionable youths and teens who would do it just to be spiteful or feel they're justified because they saw you do it.

After being content for so long just going with the flow, and keeping out of the way, is it possible to change? All I do is say yes and nod my head, though I want to scream, and make my voice heard, but every time the wall becomes tougher to break down. Perhaps I'm fated to always remain this way, never daring to say or do anything which could make someone mad, however inadvertantly.

Writer's Block: Rotten tomatoes

In terms of bad plotting..

Spiderman 3

Most any SCI-FI channel original movie

Land of the Dead

As for awful scripting

Return of the Living Dead: Necropolis/Rave to the Grave

Zombie Strippers

The Austin Powers films

As for what made them so dreadful, for the first three it was just the inconsistancies, and plot holes which so plagued them. For the others, there are also some lapses in common sense, but more than anything the scripts and concepts are just so absurd that watching them is sure to result in a swift plummeting, regarding IQ points.

As promised in my previous post, and knowing full well it could make some folks mad, I am pointing out all the inconsistencies in Harry Potter, as a whole. Of course, it shall all be behind a cut, so as not to ruin the plot for those who've not not read the entire series. If, reader of this entry, you have a plausible reason for the lapse to be overlooked, then I welcome it, always, and it's just done because I have too much time on my hands, and have really read the books carefully. All page numbers are from the hardcover editions, save for Goblet of Fire, which is paperback, and it should be noted ahead of time.. that I do not do this to profit, or to disparage the series in any way. Quite the opposite, because I like the books. That all aside.. Collapse )

Right, so there you are, and whether you agree or disagree, that's your right. I merely felt that it was necessary to point out the flaws, and if any are found by you, reader, comment as you see fit.

Yes, I am aware that it's been near six months, but I'm still alive, regardless of whether it was believed otherwise. Add to that, another entry is coming soon, and it's going to be focused on the Harry Potter series. Ahead of time, I wish to state that I adore the series, as a whole, and particularly enjoy the last four books in it. However, there are a lot of plotholes and inconsistancies that I feel must be pointed out, and thus will do the next time I make an entry. *note* I'll also be certain to put it in an LJ cut, so to not provide spoilers for those who've not read it all the way through, but then, who hasn't, really?

Writer's Block: Guarding the Terrorists

If you were ordered to become a prison guard for alleged terrorists and live at Guantanamo, what would you find most difficult about your job?
I would say definitely trying to be completely professional, but I don't mean giving into the temptation of harassing prisoners. What I refer to is keeping watch over them, and guarding them, while reporting any incidents of impropriety, committed by other guards. That to me would be the most difficult, because it would result in being ostrized, or targeted, by other guards. It's really a double edged sword, as they say. Either do your job properly and get bothered by those who give in to their hostilities, or do the same and be made a martyr.

Writer's Block: The Undead

With Halloween on the horizon, burning questions about the undead need to be answered: Can being a zombie be considered suffering?

To me, yes. Being a zombie would be, based on all I've seen, little more than slavery. In that case, it would be slavery to an instinct to continually search out food, never stopping, never tiring, even while your body decayed. That alone seems like suffering to me.

Note, this is, so I believe at least, an original quote by myself and not taken from anyone else. If it can be proven otherwise however, I shall recant the journal entry as needed. With that in mind, here goes.

Wars are like elections. They're a waste of money, are waged for selfish reasons, hinder more than they help and ultimately serve to prevent people from truly being united, whether it be just a grouping of states, or a larger scale.

Just some thoughts about my anti drama desires.

I live by the river, I live by the sea
My anti-drama llama is always around, protecting me.

He hisses and growls, thrashes and bites,
terrible things to keep you sleepless from fright

If you have problems, I'll listen for sure,
but ask me to choose sides and I'll show you the door

So what I'm saying is, talk to me, that's fine,
if you start drama however, that's where I draw the line.
