I didn’t know fondue was a thing outside USA—stupid but i thought it was like, fake cheese that we would melt to dip tiny weenies in. Looked it up and found out it’s Swiss—so probably more people than I realized enjoy it! I would love to try a fondue of local cheese, but that’s not easy to come by where i live. Enjoy yours!

I’m sorry but I am so morally disoriented by the concept of ‘fake cheese’ that I have trouble focusing on any other aspect of your message. What is fake cheese?? You say that like it’s a perfectly understandable and emotionally neutral combination of words. I feel like I’ve just been handed a koan.

Then you add the phrase “tiny weenies" like it’s the logical next step rather than a new psychological event. From my (very French) perspective the sentence “fake cheese to dip tiny weenies in” sounds like such a unique cultural artefact in itself, like a linguistic diorama to be displayed in a vitrine. This is not meant as a negative judgment of you or your country! just my earnest ethnographic confusion as I try to grapple with the concept of “tiny weenies” from a place of “fake cheese” trauma…

I had no idea fondue was seen this way in the US—I thought we (as a species) had a collective working definition of it, a sort of global consensus like the commutative property of addition, so the idea that in some corners of the world “fondue” means “fake cheese to dip tiny weenies in” has made me remember that you can just flay language off reality like skin. There’s also a non-zero chance for this phrase to have activated a sleeper agent in Lausanne and authorised targeted elimination under the Académie Française’s emergency powers.

The concept of fondue now feels violently theoretical but I wish you many delicious ones in the future though :) You have politely disintegrated a couple of foundational concepts I’d never realised I relied on, which is always enriching. I won’t recover, but thank you for sending this!

for the record fondue is not seen this way in the US lol god actually now I want my nonnas fondue recipe. ough it's so good I haven't had it in years me and my friends have also done fancy fondue nights and it's so fun

there’s a webcomic I follow where the creator keeps lecturing the audience about how to treat their characters and it’s honestly starting to get annoying lmao. like it’s fully within their right i guess but i do find it deeply silly to have nearly every new episode come with a “DONT call my characters this” or a lecture because a few commenters said mean things about an evil / morally grey character or something

at one point they were like... dont call this character 'my baby' or whatever he's a grown man and like yeah sure but also . that's a common term of endearment no one is literally calling him a baby more power to them I suppose but also good luck bc this is the inevitable conclusion of putting your stuff out into the world once was like. 'its so interesting how x character you guys loved now you all hate' well yeah bc he's being a huge asshole and a misogynist? anyway. im not going to name it but iykyk if I'm not making it not obvious for anyone who reads it

The way all the 2020s have done so far have been making me categorically against every new generation of tech that comes out is insane. Like I'm from a technological boom generation, saw the first portable phones, nokias & blackberries & flipphones etc, and the first smartphones, and the first ipods & ipads & tablets in general while still having cassettes & DVD & MP3 players around so I know how all of it work, I had computer classes in high school, I did the transition between home desktop computers to laptops and back to gaming computers. But then they started to put internet in your printer & microwave, everything has ads & AI now and every update is worst than the last. I literally loved technology and they ruined it

going to start calling it ethical monogamy. catch me giving a fuck

our-queer-experience

"i mean yeah it's fine that you're in a monogamous relationship, man, but, like, you're letting her have friends, right? she can go out and you won't freak out? her texts are private? she doesn't just say 'alright sure' every time you want to have sex? you interact with her friends and family without trying to make her look good? i just wanna make sure this monogamy is ethical"

our-queer-experience

the other week i was talking to a girl and she told me that her boyfriend made her cut off one of her friends (or only see him at group settings) because he was jealous. and in the meantime that man got shot and died. and she missed out on her last two years with him. and i started seeing fucking red

oh yeah a guy I played soccer with was dating a girl who refused to let him hang out with other women incl his best friend who was also on our team and she was like. 'yeah we used to go out and get dinner and hang all the time and now - -i never see him' anyway he and his gf got married a couple years ago I hope they're miserable :)

feeling so normal about how in Henry’s journal for the sneak out of suchdol quest it just says “i said goodbye to capon” with no other content like. in my mind palace of the suchdol siege I think henry fully temporary amnesia blocks it out because he needs to save everyone and thinking about hans is especially now devastating so he’s like. we said goodbye. who knows what happened after that certainly not me now where the FUCK is SAM

not truly amnesia but I think Henry refuses to let himself think about it even a little not until they're back and he sees hans safe and he just. all of the tension disappears i think they should have hugged in the final scene. I wanted a desperate relieved hug :(

Dragon Age Fight Club Group #5 / Match 3 of 6

Loghain Mac Tir

"The man was Maric’s right hand during the rebellion against Orlais and one of the major reasons Ferelden got its freedom back. His reputation comes from years of guerrilla fighting, battlefield command, and surviving one of the nastiest occupations in Fereldan history."

"He was the Hero of River Dane, the man who helped throw off Orlais, the general Ferelden trusted when things were at their worst."

"If you recruit him he survives the Joining as an older man, then can go straight into the final battle against the Archdemon. That says something! Most people don’t survive the Joining at all - Loghain does it after being beaten at the Landsmeet, politically destroyed, and hated by half the country."

"i hate to say it because he is deeply, deeply on my nerves, but loghain is one of the better picks if people are taking actual lifetime experience into account. he grew up under occupation, fought as an outlaw, helped win ferelden back from orlais, became one of the most respected military leaders in the country, and then, decades later, can still be recruited into the wardens and taken to fight the archdemon. you can argue about his choices forever, and people do, but the man has been surviving wars, coups, betrayals, politics, and battlefields since he was young."

vs. The Nightmare

"ancient fear demon large enough and powerful enough that hawke or a senior grey warden dies holding it back"

"nightmare would win because its opponent has trauma. this is dragon age. that is basically guaranteed."

Who would win in a fight?

Loghain

The Nightmare

listen i am not one to advocate for loghain like. ever but doesn't whoever goes up against the nightmare in inq canonically. win. or at least defeat it enough for the time being like there's a slide indicating that hawke survives right or am i making that up. i assume it's the same for loghain. also frankly. 'the nightmare wins bc the opponent has trauma' not if the opponent doesn't fucking care!! throw my failures in my face all you want I'm still beating your ass?????
