The Offbeats Official Blog

The Offbeats, Oberlin's co-ed jazz a cappella group, is holding auditions for new members! We actually sing a lot of different genres of music, but we like to keep a jazzy edge to most of our songs. Auditions will be held this Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. Sign up for a time in the Conservatory Lounge starting tomorrow.

At your audition, you'll be asked to sing a prepared solo, do a little sightreading, do some warm-ups, sing a song we'll teach you with the group, and maybe do a little vocal improvisation. It'll be fun, I promise! Auditions are open to all voice parts.

Our concerts all went well. We have our solo concert recorded on a CD, which Alex is trying diligently to distribute to the other members. We're scattered to our respective corners of the country (or in Megan's case Croatia... or in Brian's case Rwanda....).

We're looking into the possibility of going on tour during next year's fall break. Mike has a friend in an a cappella group in New York City, so that would be fun. I hope we have the funds and enough interest!

Brian and Alex are both working on some arrangements for next year, and I'd like to try a couple as well.
