Roy (Dotrice) Sets a Record
http://grrm.livejournal.com/200399…
"Congratulations to my friend Roy Dotrice, who has been officially awarded a world's record for his audibook performance of A GAME OF THRONES.
They sent him a certificate and everything:
(Certificate says: The greatest number of characters voiced in an audio book is 224, achieved by Roy Dotrice (UK), who performed distinct and distinguishable voices for every role in the 28-disc unabridged version of A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin, released on 13 January 2004. Guinness World Records Ltd.)
(I especially like the stain on the certificate, obviously meant to suggest the ring left by a mug of Guinness Stout).
Of course, I am not sure how long this particular record will stand. In fact, I think Roy may well have broken it already with his recordings for A CLASH OF KINGS and (especially) A STORM OF SWORDS. But I will leave the Guinness people to sort that out.
And, yes, yes, we are doing all we can to make sure it is Roy Dotrice who will record the audiobook for A DANCE WITH DRAGONS. He was my choice to begin with, and remains so. So you can all stop sending me emails and messages. I'm with you."
(also mentioned on SFSite, http://www.sfsite.com/news/tag/gui… with a picture of the certificate here: http://pics.livejournal.com/grrm/p…
One of the comments asks how Roy's health is, and GRRM replies that "Roy tells me he is fully recovered, and done with treatment." So that's a big plus.
I need to get this series in audio, obviously :).
This is also where I get envious of RD's and EW's wives and kids - imagine a family evening with Roy Dotrice, Edward Woodward, and George R.R. Martin. All that talent. Throw in Robert Lansing, and I'd definitely be drooling! Wouldn't mind if Keith or Robert Joy were along as well...
Hmm - wonder if there's a chance that that ever/often did happen?
