Pages for deletion

Sinthani

Please see Category:Candidates for speedy deletion and take care of those pages however you see fit (deletion, rewriting, etc.). That's a category that you should monitor regularly as the wiki's only active admin. Also, see the newly created Madzi, which, while perhaps not worthy of deletion, is nonetheless a very poor article in need of rewriting. - dcljr (talk) 08:06, 17 February 2019 (UTC)

Thanks. - dcljr (talk) 00:10, 18 February 2019 (UTC)
No thank you for taking note i have been busy with Wiki Loves Africa here in Zambia. --Chabwino (talk) 05:11, 18 February 2019 (UTC)

Main and user namespace

Sinthani

Hi, as you are one of the most active ones here, I wanted to directly ask you what your view on the interactions between article and user namespace is. User:Icem4k/Zanco Mpundu Mutembo for example is in [[Category:1936 kubadwa]]. My experience is that the links between these namespaces are limited and article drafts should not be in main namespace categories etc. I'm interested in your POV. --Zenith4237 (talk) 00:02, 15 September 2019 (UTC)

Hi, hit me up if you have any more tech stuff you want me to do, I'd be very happy to do some more. Also, it'd be cool if you checked this. Greetings from Germany --Zenith4237 (talk) 22:52, 2 October 2019 (UTC)

Yo! Zenith4237 The translation 100% correct.--Chabwino (talk) 00:09, 3 October 2019 (UTC)
Haha alright, perfect! I was meaning "Palibe chithunzi chowoneka lero." down at "Chithunzi chowonetsedwa" on Tsamba Lalikulu. Get some sleep! ;) --Zenith4237 (talk) 00:11, 3 October 2019 (UTC)
I noticed the summary so i was like you might be asking about the translation lol. --Chabwino (talk) 00:15, 3 October 2019 (UTC)

Expo 2020

Sinthani

Excuse my bad Chewa. I had removed the image because it contains the wrong logo as it was made as a joke. This is the right logo of Expo 2020. SpinnerLaserzthe2nd (talk) 17:42, 25 Okotobala 2021 (UTC)Reply

How we will see unregistered users

Sinthani

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Simple and less exhausting templates

Sinthani

Can we use templates that are simple? This is because the system templates you just adopted that is similar to enwiki is really tiresome as they are written in dates, thus Template: POTD Protected/2025-02-19 which means that if the next template which will be Template:POTD Protected/2025-02-20 doesn't exist yet, then the home (main page) will be rugged. I was thinking of using simpler ones like the ones I made/used on tumwiki that keep looping themselves each month.

Also think of the time when you, me and other current editors won't be around, the look of the wiki could suffer. The enwiki is using that system because it has hundreds of thousands of active editors per day, unlike us here who are less, just you and me and 1 editor(as of 19 April 2025).

Otherwise, this system will always need an active sysop who would be creating such templates every day, tirelessly. Unless you are planning to stick around always, I am no longer an admin here and hope not to be again in the next few months, as have personal business.

If you think this won't affect the wiki then assure me and feel free to continue:)

Thanks,

You may be an eligible candidate for the U4C election

Sinthani

Greetings,

The Universal Code of Conduct Coordinating Committee (U4C) seeks candidates for the 2026 election. The U4C is the global committee responsible for overseeing enforcement of the Universal Code of Conduct. Elections are held annually, if elected a committee member serves for two years.

This year the U4C requires candidates to hold administrator rights on at least one wiki, which is why you are being contacted as you appear to hold this right. There are other requirements, such as candidates must be at least 18 years old and may not be employed by the Wikimedia Foundation or other related chapters and affiliates. You can find more information in the call for candidates on Meta-wiki. Additionally, the committee's working language is English; some ability to communicate in English is required.

The election opens on 18 May, if you are eligible and interested you have until 10 May to submit your candidacy. There will be a week in between for candidates to answer questions from the community. Voting takes place privately in SecurePoll, successful candidates must receive at least 60% support. More information is available on the 2026 Elections page, including timelines and other candidacy information. If you read over the material and consider yourself qualified, please consider submitting your name to run for the committee. If you think someone else in your community might be interested and qualified, please encourage them to run.

Request to delete several pages

Sinthani

BestBoy201 is a cross-wiki spammer. They made several pages here using ContentTranslation, but they almost certainly don't speak Chichewa; they were just trying to add spam links. Could you delete their pages? Thanks, and sorry for posting in English. lp0 on fire () 10:48, 6 Meyi 2026 (UTC)Reply

Okay will look into that. Chabwino (talk) 08:32, 26 Meyi 2026 (UTC)Reply
