I need to go to the North Shore after summer skool is over. I need to do it for next to nothing. Anyone have a line on a cheap place to stay or know anyone who has a cabin they would let me rent? Something like that?

p.s. camping is not an option

Dear skool,

I'm not going to insult you by dragging out the tired old 'it's not you, it's me' cliche because, let's be honest, we both know better. It really is you. Well, you and the people in my groups. Maybe it would be different if there weren't the group projects to come between us, but there are group projects. There's nothing to be done about them and it's time I take care of myself. So, I'm breaking up with you. Maybe it's just for now. Think of it as a break, if you want, but make no mistake, I will be seeing other institutions. There's a trip to the zoo in the near future and the public library, which, yes, means I might read for fun. Fun! I don't mean to make it worse than it is, really, I'm just being honest.

Good luck.

Lara

Here is what I'm working on for the article "EMDR treatment for children with PTSD: Results of a randomized controlled trial:

Table Part 1: Describing Key Study Characteristics

  1. Article number (consistent with the list of articles you turned in for Step 2-B)

  1. Research questions(s ) and/ or hypothesis(es)
    • Should refer to specific variables/relationships under investigation in the study

  1. Independent variables (IV) & dependent variables (DV)*
    • What are they?
    • How is each operationalized?

*Only list the DV(s) you are specifically interested in for this project, not every DV in the study

  1. Measures (IV)
    • What measures are used to assess the IV(s)?
    • What is reported about the validity and reliability of the measure(s)?

  1. Measures (DV)
    • (same as #4 above)

  1. Sample
    • What type of sample was used (e.g., simple random, snowball, convenience)?
    • What is the sample size (i.e., n=?)?
    • Participant characteristics?

  1. Data collection
    • What methods were used to collect the data (written survey, interview, etc.)?
    • What procedures were used (i.e., how, when, where, and by whom were data collected)?

  1. Results
    • Report findings of the study for each DV you identified above
    • Be sure to specify which outcomes were statistically significant

It's hard not to be jealous of me, I know. I feel your pain peeps but I'm kind of a big deal.

I think I'm in the process of hatching it right now. I'm just  not sure yet exactly what it is...

GEMINI (May 21-June 20): Humans have been baking and eating bread for at least 5,000 years. But it wasn't until the 20th century that anyone figured out a fast and easy way to cut it into thin, precise pieces. Then Otto Rohwedder, who had been working on the project for 16 years, produced a machine that cut a loaf into individual slices. I bring him to your attention, Gemini, because I think you are in a phase of your life when you could very possibly create an innovation that would be as intimately revolutionary as Rohwedder's was for the masses. In fact, why aren't you working on it right now?

GEMINI (May 21-June 20): Almost exactly ten years from now, you will be blessed with an eruption of personal power that's so crafty and so practical that you will be able to visualize a solution to a problem that has stumped you for a long time. It may take you months to actually carry out that solution in its entirety, but all the while you will have the luxury of feeling perfect certainty about what must be done. And you know what the weird thing is, Gemini? Something very similar is in the works for the next few weeks: an eruption of crafty, practical power that will help you materialize the key to solving an old dilemma, hopefully followed by months of carrying out your lucid plan.

Something to think about. People walk around every day hurt and fragile and having gone through atrocities small to huge. Just because someone is functioning doesn't mean they are well.

Rob Brezsny so rarely suggests or wants me to kick my ass so I think I have to take this seriously. GEMINI (May 21-June 20): I have good astrological reasons to suspect that a year from now, your empire will be bigger. The resources you have at your disposal will be more substantial, the influence you wield will be more meaningful, and the responsibilities you oversee will be more demanding. You can't, however, just sit back passively and expect fate to make it all happen for you. You will have to work your assets off: get better organized, clarify your game plan, and commit to taking better care of yourself. None of that is mandatory, of course. Being a lazy wanderer with no mission statement is definitely an option. If you do go in that direction, though, don't complain to me next December about how you feel like you're made of cookie dough.
