if you tell someone to do a marge simpson voice they always start with saying "homer" ans if you tell someone to do a lois griffin voice they always start with "petah". which is the name of their husbands instead of their own.....

it would be SOOOO embarrassing if a beautiful woman came in and swept my team that is open to dark type attacks with a single tyrannitar. also im off work right after this, do you think you could walk me to the pokemon center to heal up my team? thanks i really appreciate it. haha no its okay, my goal as the third gym leader for this region is to create a tough but passable challenge, and you thoroughly earned that win back there, well done! yeah it's mostly just kids these days, it's nice to talk to another person who started training as an adult. oh me? well i lived in kanto for a bit while i was in university and was originally going to go into advertising, but in my early 20s i realized i wanted to be more active in fostering my town's community, and when the local gym announced they'd be holding tryouts for a new leader after the last guy moved away, i remembered when i was a kid and i'd doodle gym puzzles on the edges of my notebooks in school. i spent the first half of that year training up my team, and when the time came i actually managed to come out on top! yeah, since then it's been a lot of fun hosting community events at the gym. creating a space for people and their pokemon to come together and socialize and create bonds is really an amazing thing to get to witness. we've been hosting free workshops for non-battle skills too lately, like making pokepuffs and sewing and stuff. what about you? oh wow, yeah i'd heard about a diner opening in town, but that was you? that's super cool, i'd love to stop by some time! yeah that makes sense, i've seen restaurant owners display their badges in their shops before. it's never a bad idea to have that kind of thing around as a kind of certification, no matter what field you're in. oh we're here! gosh that was fast, haha, i feel like that took no time at all. thanks again for walking with me, it was nice to talk to someone. what? no you don't have to wait for me that's okay, haha. oh wow, that's really sweet of you. okay. sure. you wait right here, and i'll be back out in a moment. it's only 9, and i'd love to talk to you some more. yeah. me too. ok, i'll be right back out 0:^]

got a bit carried away transferring my consciousness into a universe where i was a gym leader with this one.

2 years after hiring Scout, at a regional council meeting:

"with the water type gym leader from two towns over suddenly getting arrested, and his gym getting condemned, it's kinda put the region's gym order in a weird spot... there's not really the infrastructure available to start funnelling prospective trainers to neighbouring regions for temp badges while we find a permanent replacement...

hmm... ya know, our ghost type gym sure has been pretty... vibrant lately.

the community center eventually turning part of the abandoned building into a greenhouse space makes a lot of sense, and has been great economically for the town, but it certainly made things feel a lot more lush, and a lot less dead.

and it was only natural for them to build the new pokemon center into the side of the structure since most of the community was already coming to the clinic they provided, but like... again, the whole thing sort of shouts "life force" and "dynamic". doesn't really bring to mind death and gloom... it's sorta like it's turned into Two Distinct Types of Gym...

and well, PM Scou-- sorry, i mean Gym Leader Scout-- seems to be pretty on top of things, taking care of her gym leader duties and her community manager tasks at the same time... surely she could handle the community center being used as an ad-hoc gym for the time being! all her qualifications make her perfect for the job!"

the "permanent replacement", of course, never happened. and for many years to come, Scout would come to manage, oversee, and fret over two separate gyms-- much to her great dismay, and even deeper joy.

and now you understand why, when you see Ghost and Grass Gyms Leader Scout's eyes, they are so deeply, deeply tired.

one thing i've noticed at my new job is the amount of people who want to know about accidents involving to other patrons, especially children, at the habitat where we keep the arapaimas and pacus and giant stingrays. people will come up to me and do this come-close-so-i-can-whisper motion, and when i nod and lean in, they ask me like "has anyone ever fallen in?" "have there ever been any accidents?" "has anything ever Happened with the arapaima?" with what i can only describe as this sort of mirthful schaudenfreude. this morbid, almost vulturesque rubbernecking. the tone of someone who slows down to get a better look when they drive past a car accident.

my honest answer, which i give them, is "i don't know" and they always look disappointed. it's fascinating. i'm sorry we take great care to avoid the sudden removal of children's extremities by the carnivorous fish that's nearly twice as long as i am tall. as if it's my fault

me trying to do my job teaching people about tropical fish while an inquisitive patron is dying to know which of our animals have developed a taste for human flesh and how it happened

t00thpasteface

coming back to this post to say people have been so disorderly and disrespectful with the animals lately i think the largest arapaima should be allowed to bite one rude guest per month to hopefully keep everyone else on some better behavior

ok, actual solution related to the grumblings ive been having the other day: we actually need to teach people how to descrive different kinds of pain, either Burning pain, or Throbbing pain, or Cramping pain, or Stabbing pain.

is incredible how often doctors would ask the patient to descrive the pain, and gives the options i just mentioned, and they will repeat multiple times this question, putting emphasis on the qualia of it (but is it THROBBING or is it BURNING or is it LIKE PINS AND NEEDLES...?) and the patients just do not understand the question at all. this is not processed at all by the patient, the patient will start talking about how they were not able to sleep or for how long the pain lasted or how they got hurt and is like. or they will just repeat that it hurts and that is it. the concept of different kinds of pain that could be descrived in different ways, with different kinds of sensation of just not a linguistic tool anyone ever taught them.

im not even saying the patients are at fault for this. clearly this is not an intuitive concept that one can simply derive on their own just by thinking about it or by it being explained in the moment, is something that has to be taught in some sense.

and is not like the patient understands what the doctor is asking and simply what the doctor is saying does not apply. is not like the doctor offers different options and the patient will say "no, is not like any of those" or "im having trouble describing it because is a strange feeling". when the doctor asks is not like the patient is struggling to descrive it but words are not enough, they just insist that it hurts like the doctor is being silly for asking over and over. which tells me they are fundamentally no even understanding what is being asked in the first place

important that you never forgive ice agents, ever. even years after all this is over (and I do believe we will make it out on the other side, alive and for the better,) they live in shame and disgrace forever. no excuses, no forgiveness. they ruined their own lives when they decided that human freedom and liberty was an acceptable sacrifice for a paycheck

my roommates car is named barff. it was originally bought from a dealership called garff, but then she tinkered with the g on the license plate thing so it looks like a b and now the car is just called barff.

my wife once asked our roomate where she was parked in a group chat. but she messed up the word "parked" and instead spelled it as "garked". and then me and my roommate just started referring to parking as garking because its just really fun to give my wife shit. its just part of the professional little brother playbook.

but also, at some point it stopped being ironic and we just started calling parking garking.

then today me and my wife were looking out the window and we saw our roommate struggling to do a three point turn into a parking space. and as fun as it is to give my wife shit its also really fun to give our roommate shit. so we ran outside and we ran around her car while chanting GARK THE BARFF. GARK THE BARFF. GARK THE BARFF. and then she did, eventually, gark the barff. theres no moral to this its just a surreal part of my life that i really enjoy. maybe tease people more? find your barff and gark it and never ever stop?

An underappreciated part of this story is wheee OP implies that he is his wife’s little brother.

inbabylontheywept

professional little brothering is a lifelong craft that requires no blood relationship to the people you inflict it upon. all it really requires is a willingness to show your deep affection for someone by annoying them.
