Species
The article describes him as being a kitsune in Japan, and a fox elsewhere. That's pretty stupid. It would be like saying Rover is un chat in France, but he's a cat elsewhere.
My point is, a kitsune IS a fox. There's no other way to say fox! Tanuki is different, because the actual SPECIES is different (raccoon dog vs. raccoon).

It's also worth noting that if you take the first three characters of Redd's Japanese name, Tsunekichi, and add the last character to the front you get Kitsune. Doing something like that certainly fits with his deceitful personality. -Coatlmon 2:20 March 4, 2016 (EDT)

NH section outdated?
During Jolly Redd's first appearance, although the Treasure Trawler is docked at the player's small northern beach, it is closed; instead, he'll be wandering around the player's island. When talked to, he will introduce himself and will give the player a painting, first attempting to charge 498,000 Bells for it before cutting it down to just 1% of its original price. This first painting is always genuine, and when it is shown to Blathers, he will accept the donation and be able to expand the museum to include an art exhibit, which will cause the museum to be closed for construction the following day.
I just started playing the game a few days ago, and this isn't how it went at all. After Tom Nook announced his presence, I just saw Redd wandering around near the plaza, and then after talking to him he said we were already like family, and then disappeared to his boat on the northern beach. I didn't get quoted half a million bells for a painting, and i didn't buy a painting from him there either. i had to head up to his boat to buy one (which, they were all genuine. not sure if that always happens the first time or if i was just lucky). Now I'm just waiting on the painting to arrive in the mail tomorrow, to go donate to blathers. The Museum also already has the art wing, instead of needing built. This was changed in the 2.0 update, which the Museum article has already updated
I'm assuming this just changed in an update at some point, but if someone else could double check this for me that would be appreciated

Unsourced and potentially incorrect trivia
I was curious about the trivia section regarding the origin of Redd's name, and how it came from Dante's Divine Comedy. I found that it is unsourced, incorrect (the character's name is Rubicante, referred to as 'mad Rubicante' in Inferno XXI), and there are no mentions of him being a grafter or someone who sells things by unfair or illegal means (he's written to be encountered in the third bolgia of simony, the act of selling church positions or sacred objects, which I suppose is similar, but the description used in the trivia is flat-out wrong when discussing Divine Comedy). Additionally, searching for Crazyred in a search engine only yields results relating to the trivia. I don't think the entry is entirely wrong (mad Rubicante could be interpreted as a possible inspiration for the name Crazy Redd), but I'm pretty convinced that it's misinformative. If I'm wrong, please let me know. Maybe there's some obscure translation of Divine Comedy out there where he's named Crazyred. Mangoma'am (talk) 17:37, November 10, 2025 (EST)
