Discussion

I was playing around last night and made this (based on Template:DistributedItemBox) and wanted some opinions on it. Shrunk tells a joke based on the emotion, so that can be listed. It appears the icons are already in the database, so that's a plus. — imjon ^(talk) 16:50, 10 July 2013 (EDT)

But I'm worried I won't be able to pull it off as well as he did. In fact, it might not make any sense at all, come to think of it. Guess I'll just have to give it a try anyway! Prepare to see emotion in motion! You shall now see embarrassment appear in the very air! ... I was talking to my youngest daughter the other day. And THEN! She said that she thought I was 110 years old! And THEN! I got very embarrassed! I mean, 110?! Do I really look that YOUNG to you?! <3 (Oh wow. I'm ebarrassed to even use that joke.)"

Daydreaming Animals react with an unknown reaction. "My Daydreaming Joke is just the thing to cure what ails you! You know...the lottery can really get you dreaming. If I won first prize, I'd buy a yacht, and then get a hot tub for my yacht, and some sort of robot butler... Maybe take the missus on vacation. Would she like a tropical island? You'd think they would leave me alone..."

Shyness A worried look comes across their face. Animals react with an unknown reaction. "My Shyness Joke is just the thing to CURE what ails you! This story is from back before the missus and I got hitched... It was truly love at first sight. So one day I gathered up all my courage and decided to propose to her! Yeah! It went great! Um...well...the truth is... I, um... I mean,what I want to say is... I just couldn't spit it out. I was standing there squirming, and she looked at me and said, "I'm sorry, who are you?" It took three months to get up the nerve to try again..."

Villager reactions. (and Phyllis)

I think it might be notable to mention that villagers react to the player's emotions (I see a long-incomplete attempt at what might be possibly that). I think it's also worth mentioning that Phyllis is a special case: she reacts negatively to positive emotions, but seems to express discomfort or sympathy at negative emotions. For example, the 2 really angry emotions cause her to show concern instead of being angry back, whereas the irritation emotion elicits sheepish laughter. Redesigning Template:Reaction

I designed Template:Reaction some years ago, but since then I feel like it's become bloated beyond what it was originally designed for. The section it's used in looks messy to me now, with some of the boxes being stretched, which distorts the size of surrounding ones. I'd quite like to simplify the template, but want to gather feedback first.

Personally, I think we should remove the info on how to obtain the reaction in New Horizons, as well as which version it was added in. This is all already covered in its own section on the page. I also think having this info within the template will potentially bloat it even further, should future games introduce their own acquisition methods. I'd rather just keep the template as a sort of reaction gallery for the series, displaying an image, name and icon, and appearance info. We could probably keep the translated names too, though this will need tweaking as there seem to be layout issues caused by some of the longer names.

Any thoughts on this? I'd also be open to converting it to a different format (e.g. a table) if people would prefer this. -- Dorsal Axe (talk) 05:00, January 22, 2026 (EST)

List needs updates

Disbelief is in Pocket Camp (Complete). There are probably other reactions in PC(C) that aren't marked as green on the list. IIRC Side Bends is there too, just under a different name. Kirby-Food (talk) 18:35, March 17, 2026 (EDT)
