Coco is a normal rabbit villager in the Animal Crossing series who appears in all games to date. She is the only normal rabbit in the series. Her English name may come from her coconut-like head. Her Japanese name comes from the historical era known as the Yayoi period during which small clay figures known as haniwa were produced. Like the gyroids, these haniwa figures are what Coco's appearance is based on.

In New Horizons, Coco has the education hobby and can be seen wearing rimmed glasses, reading a novel while outside, and using a magnifying glass when near certain objects.

Appearance

Coco is a tan, clay-like rabbit with hollow eyes and mouth, similar in appearance to a Gyroid. Her legs are slightly darker than the rest of her body. There is what appears to be a seam or fold around the top of her head. Her face is always expressionless, regardless of her emotions, though when surprised, her eyes become slightly bigger.

She will have hygiene concerns, represented when the player visits her house, and she will state her embarrassment at the supposedly unclean appearance of her home. She will mention her interest in reading and the various books she reads. She also will enjoy writing and receiving letters.

Coco's birthday of March 1 is a reference to how her Japanese name, Yayoi (弥生), is also the traditional name for March in the Japanese calendar.
In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, other rabbits have applied physics on their ears, causing them to bounce and sway when they move; however, Coco's are uniquely stiff, giving the impression that she is made of hardened clay.^[2]
Since Coco is the only normal rabbit present in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, she has exclusive dialogue on New Year's Day celebrating the Year of the Rabbit, starting in 2023. When spoken to enough times, she will state, "You might know this already, but this is the Year of the Rabbit! I guess it's my year, then? <catchphrase>, I'm honestly not sure how to feel about any of it."
