Charlie - Birthday Present

Happy Birthday, Dear Charlie

Yep, even though we celebrated it last weekend, today is really Charlie's third birthday.

First, there were Cinderella decorations.

Then there was Fancy Nancy. Fancy Nancy is the heroine of a series of books. Charlie loves her. Fancy Nancy likes everything to be girly and fancy. And pink. And knows that things spoken in French are so much better than when said in English.

And then there was Charlie, channeling her inner (and outer) Fancy Nancy.

Happy Charlie

Charlie's birthday is coming up (December 13). This is an even-numbered year, so Emily will be spending her entire winter break with her dad - which means we're going to have our Christmas very early - around the time of Charlie's birthday.

Charles is pinning Major the first of December and his parents will be out for that - and wanting to have a birthday celebration with Charlie.

Since I didn't want Charlie to be overwhelmed with too many presents all at one time, and because Emily and I couldn't really wait anymore, we decided to give Charlie her main birthday gift yesterday: a baby doll - with a cradle and a few matching outfits for Charlie and the doll to wear.

Charlie was thrilled. There was one sort of interesting element to the day though. Charlie adores my mom. I mean, Charlie loves everyone and would, if given the chance, invite Charles Manson over for a tea party. But Charlie is really fond of my mom. As far as she knows, though, Mom's name is Nana. I don't believe she's ever heard Mom's given name (Ellie). Nor does she have any friends named this - or watch any TV shows or have any books with a character named Ellie.

But there was no doubt in Charlie's mind - her doll's name is Ellie and that's all there is to it.

Here are some pictures of Charlie and Ellie.

Happy Birthday, Charlie!

That's right - Charlie is 2 today! We had a lovely day with her. We took her to the very small Hattiesburg Zoo, then to Emily's basketball game, and then home for pressies and cake. She's gotten quite a bit taller this year, but only weighs 25 pounds. She's too tall for 18-month clothes, but 24-months just fall right off. She didn't get too much in the way of pressies because Christmas is coming up so soon and she's only 2. Truthfully, she was most interested in the party hats.

Lots more pictures here!

And yes, I realize she's naked for most of these pictures - but that's a pretty fair representation of how she looks most of the time.

Anne Geddes, Eat Your Heart Out

For the Captain's birthday in March, I found a place online where you can submit a photo and they'll put it on a cookie tin and then send the tin, complete with cookies.

Here's the picture we're using:

Of course, to get the picture, first she peed on me, and then she pooped into my cupped hands.

I don't think I'll pursue a career in naked infant photography.

Having said that, she felt so much better once she was so ... productive!
