today is a day for Marchen, the fairy tale campaign with my former oath of redemption paladin Dalton. this song came up in my recommendations and made me laugh with how appropriate it is for him:

(do the lines about "and should the worse come to its worst/I’ll gladly let my best days go to waste" remind me of Dalton demanding that his boyfriend the regent protect himself and his heirs by leaving him in prison for five years? yes, yes they do. does Dalton have regrets about that when he sees the first hints of gray at Kristoff's temples? yes, yes he does.)

if you recall how I said I have no chill, that lack of chill continues. I wrote a third part of that backstory fic about my paladin Dalton and the prince-turned-thief that he fell in love with, this time set in the first few months after Dalton crash-lands in Kristoff's life. it's also up on AO3 if that's easier.

so we had another session of our homebrew fairy tale campaign yesterday. I forgot to put up a song for Dalton, but that's okay because BIG THINGS happened in that session. my paladin broke his oath.

I have a d&d oneshot I'm very excited about tonight, but tomorrow afternoon is a new session of Marchen, which is a homebrew campaign about twisted fairy tales. I won't have time tomorrow morning to put up a song, so I'm doing so now:

tonight we have the Crooked Moon campaign, so here's a song for my skeleton boy Jabo:

Jabo lost his soul to a demon after a fiddle contest gone wrong, and now that he's died it's time for an eternity of servitude in the afterlife. he thinks he's ruthless enough to do anything to stay on that demon's good side, but unfortunately the party he found himself working with is challenging him on that already. one is a grandmother witch who gave him a cookie; another is the father of a young daughter. he doesn't want to know anything about these people, let alone like them, and it concerns him because the demon could always be listening or watching in order to keep him in line. it's a pretty bad position to have found himself in. it's only going to get more complicated from here. I'm loving the process of Jabo twisting in the wind.

so my grave cleric Tali got laid in our Vecna: Eve of Ruin game this last Friday, and I apparently got possessed by the spirit of pornography because I wrote roughly 6k of Tali getting his groove back with a friendly paladin NPC. I'm posting it on AO3 and linking it here with the understanding that nobody is under any obligation to actually READ the totally shameless PWP: bedroom hymns.

tonight is the night for Eve of Vecna, the d&d game that's a continuation of our Curse of Strahd campaign, and this is a song I've been listening to and thinking of Tali the grave cleric:

it's a new campaign start day! we're playing The Crooked Moon, a folk horror by the people behind Legends of Avantris. what I've seen of their work (I've been watching the Actual Play that inspired the module) has been really creepy and cool, so I'm very excited to be traumatized.

the character I'm playing is Jabo, a hobgoblin from the Forgotten Realms who dies and gets dragged to this terrible afterlife where he becomes a living skeleton. the whole concept of his character is that he's basically Johnny from The Devil Went Down to Georgia, except he lost the fiddle contest and therefore his soul. (I always liked the devil's solo best, personally, for all that Johnny's is apparently a lot more difficult on a technical level and he basically beat the devil's ass.) Jabo is a ruthless little con artist with a cocky streak, and I love him very much.

a song that makes me think of him:

this is mostly blorbo-related posting, but I've had this stuck in my head for the last few days because of the cold despite the fact that it's not nearly winter yet:

(yes, I'm also thinking of Kristoff and Dalton's five-year separation before the campaign starts. Dalton is resigned to prison for life; he thinks it's safer for everyone if he's there. per the DM, Kristoff refused to give up on him even if he struggled to find a solution. the campaign starts with Dalton getting out. I'm looking forward to them finally seeing each other again, to say the least.)

I've got nothing much concrete to say today, but I'm in a music sharing mood, so here's this song I listened to on repeat while writing and that has been consequently stuck in my head for days. the artist used to be the bass singer in Pentatonix who left to do his own thing, and it's pretty awesome:

because I have no chill, I have written the second part of two of the backstory fic for my oath of redemption paladin Dalton and his prince-turned-thief Kristoff. this one is set about a year after the first. there is much gay pining between the prince and his paladin if you're into that kind of thing. I also decided to post it on AO3. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

the Bastard is borrowed from Lois McMaster Bujold's Chalion series, which I would highly recommend.

one of my d&d campaigns, Arvandor, is wrapping up around March. T's been homebrewing a new campaign about fucked up fairy tales and I've been revamping a character I played in previous oneshots on a different server, an oath of redemption paladin named Dalton. as I sometimes do, I accidentally created a minor obsession and ended up writing fic about his backstory. I'm not putting it on AO3 yet, I don't think, but I'm going to put it here because why not:
