Submission Terms

1. Eligibility & General Guidelines

By submitting content to Nightscribe, you confirm that:

  • You are at least 16 years old.

  • You are the original author of the submitted work and have the legal right to submit it.

  • Your submission is not plagiarized and does not infringe upon the intellectual property or other rights of any third party.

All submissions should align with Nightscribe's focus on dark, mysterious, eerie, horror, and speculative fiction. We reserve the right to reject submissions that do not fit the platform's thematic scope or quality standards.

2. Content Standards & Prohibited Material

Submissions must not include content that is illegal, harmful, or violates community standards. In particular, the following are strictly prohibited:

Prohibited Topics

  • Harm to minors: Any depiction of sexual exploitation, abuse, or inappropriate involvement of minors.

  • Sexual violence: Explicit or implied depictions of sexual assault or coercion.

  • Glorification of suicide or self-harm: Content that endorses, romanticizes, or graphically details self-harm or suicide.

  • Hate speech or discrimination: Content targeting individuals or groups based on protected characteristics with the intent to demean, threaten, or incite hatred.

  • Exploitation of real-world tragedies: Using real-life disasters, mass violence, or terrorist acts primarily for shock or horror value.

  • Extreme or gratuitous violence: Excessive gore, torture, or violence that does not meaningfully serve the narrative.

We may remove or reject content that violates these standards at our discretion.

3. Intellectual Property & Licensing

You retain full ownership of your submitted work.

When publishing a story on Nightscribe, you must select an intellectual property license that defines how others may use your work. Available options include:

  • CC BY-NC-SA – Attribution, NonCommercial, ShareAlike

  • CC BY-NC-ND – Attribution, NonCommercial, NoDerivatives

  • CC BY-NC – Attribution, NonCommercial

  • CC BY – Attribution

  • CC0 – Public Domain Dedication

You are solely responsible for choosing a license that reflects your intentions regarding attribution, commercial use, and derivative works.

By submitting content, you grant Nightscribe a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, display, distribute, and promote your work solely for the purpose of operating and promoting the platform, in accordance with the license you selected.

4. Publication & Editing

  • Nightscribe allows users to submit and publish content directly without prior editorial review.

  • By publishing content, you confirm that your submission complies with these Submission Terms and all applicable laws.

  • We reserve the right to remove, restrict, or modify content after publication if it violates these Submission Terms, our Terms of Service, or applicable law.

  • We may make limited edits to submissions or cover images to meet formatting, accessibility, or publishing standards.

We will not materially alter the meaning of your work without good reason. Authors may contact us to discuss concerns or corrections related to their published content.

5. Responsibility & Legal Compliance

You are solely responsible for your submission and confirm that:

  • Your content complies with applicable laws and regulations.

  • Your submission does not violate privacy, publicity, or intellectual property rights.

  • Any factual references to real persons or events are used lawfully and responsibly.

Nightscribe disclaims liability for user-submitted content to the maximum extent permitted by law.

6. Community Conduct

We encourage respectful and constructive interaction within the Nightscribe community. Harassment, abuse, or disruptive behavior related to submissions or feedback is not tolerated and may result in moderation actions.

7. Removal or Modification of Content

We reserve the right to:

  • Remove or disable access to content that violates these Submission Terms or applicable law

  • Remove plagiarized or infringing content

  • Modify or remove content to maintain platform integrity or legal compliance

Where appropriate, we may notify authors of removal actions.

8. Compensation & Revenue

At this time, Nightscribe does not offer monetary compensation or revenue sharing for submitted content.

Any future monetization or compensation programs will be clearly communicated in advance and may be subject to additional terms.

9. Privacy & Data Use

Personal data provided during the submission process is used only for:

  • Processing and publishing submissions

  • Communicating with authors regarding their content

  • Moderation and platform administration

10. Narration Submissions

Narration submissions must comply with the story's selected Creative Commons license, the author's narration permissions, and the story's AI rules. If a story does not allow generative AI, your narration must not be created with the use of generative AI.

  • Your narration must follow the Creative Commons license selected for the story, including its attribution, non-commercial, no-derivatives, or share-alike requirements.

  • Your narration must follow the story's AI policy. If AI use is not allowed for the story, do not create, train, generate, or otherwise produce the narration with generative AI tools.

  • Your narration must include working links to the author's Nightscribe profile and the original Nightscribe story page where the story is published.

  • Breaching these narration submission rules may result in the narration being removed, your submission privileges being limited, or your account being suspended or banned.

We may remove narration submissions that do not comply with these rules, request corrections before approving them, or take additional moderation action where necessary.

11. Changes to These Submission Terms

We may update these Submission Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated to users through the platform or via email.

12. Acknowledgement

By submitting content to Nightscribe, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to these Submission Terms, as well as the intellectual property license you selected for your work.
