[Deanna's Point of View]
... it was Cera Bateman's party. September 8, 2007. It was a good time but alas that's not the story I'm meaning to tell here. Jennae and Erica showed up to the party late. I had been out in the sun all day and I was quite happy for them to finally be around. Cera's party was coming to a close - people were leaving. It was time for the 3 of us to leave as well.
We agreed to walk maybe a half mile down the street to go see Nick Padula, of course. We made sure no one else was interested in the voyage and we were off. It was a hot day. Bearable, but quite warm. Somehow it was refreshing. We meandered down the sidewalk making jokes, people watching, and just goofing off.
Finally we arrived at Nick's house. But, we knew that if we went to the front door we would never gain access to the apartment he shared with his brother. Obviously, his bedroom window was a much better candidate. We snuck by under his first window and reached the window next to his bed. Jennae grabbed a lonely lawn chair that was rotting in the unkept backyard and set it up next to the grill. She hopped up on the chair and to our approval, the window was open.
Ah, the joys of never having privacy. Nick was laying out on his bed watching tv; dressed in nothing but his boxer briefs. Jackpot. Jennae being the adventurous one happily jumped through the window into his room. I had no intentions of making myself look like a fucking fairy sausage log by trying to squirm through a window. As one knows, walking makes humans thirsty. So, Erica and I asked Nick to get us a cup of water. We wern't picky - we drank our refreshing water. Maybe it was the heat that was making us crazy, but Erica pulled me around the corner and suggested that we steal the cup.
So I did.
It was getting darker out. Nick got dressed sometime after our arrival and we went outside to hang out for a little while. As we waited to leave we saw Wade Sherby and company riding their bikes like they were some kind of big shots by us at probably 30 miles an hour. So we watched. Secretly, well no - openly we discussed how funny it would be if one of them slipped. As they sped by us, we tried to talk to them. They ignored us. Eventually, it happened. Wade's bike pedal fell off. Right in front of us. We saw it, they spent a lot of time searching. We grabbed it. They continued to seach, and we continued to try and get them to talk to us.
They didn't talk to us. We didn't give him his bike pedal back.
I still have the teacup I stole from Nick to this day.
Jennae still has Wade's bike pedal.
We told him we had it when we were in driver's ed. He didn't care.
