A friend is cleaning out some fandom stuff and has these 8x10 Stargate SG-1 publicity photos. They're the type you'll often see autographed, but these are not. If anyone would like any/all of them, they're FREE to a good home. Just send me a message with your mailing address.
She's also got a most of the Star Wars Galaxy The 140 Card Collection. Looks like there's 19 cards missing, but they're all in card organizers in a 3-ring binder, so they're all nice and mint. Would have to do postage for this one, but it's probably less than $5 if I do Media Mail.
I still haven't watched any of The Mandalorian, but Disney has more Star Wars projects in the works.
I really liked Rogue One, but due to the nature of it, there's not a way to do a sequel with any of the same cast. So let the magic (prequel) happen.
I haven't watched much of the animated Star Wars content, mainly just an access thing. Looks to be a spin-off of The Clone Wars animated series.
This has a lot of potential. Patty Jenkins (Wonder Women) is directing. I know Rogue Squadron had a whole book series, but that was in the old pre-Disney universe, so there's no telling who will be in this one, or even what time period it would be in. Will it be set around the time of the original movies, the sequels, or some totally new time period? Would be cool to have Poe or Finn be a part of the squadron, or at least cameo as the Admirals in charge.
There's also going to be a series about Obi-Wan Kenobi, but it's apparently too early for even a teaser.
I've had one person pick up stuff in the three hours the library has been open, and only a couple of phone calls today. I'm technically working on reports and the like, but it's so quiet, it's maddening. So I've got a small window open on my screen watching a DVD of Star Wars: Clone Wars .
I read a lot of the Star Wars novels when they first revived them (now the "Legacy" books), but never watched any of the animated stuff. I do have an awareness of them via online fandom, and recently reading about how they're adding Ahsoka Tano to the next season of The Mandalorian (which I haven't watched yet), so I thought I might as well watch it since I need a little distraction. I don't think I've seen the prequel movies since they were in theaters, so I'm probably missing some of the nuances, but one thing I'm sure of is how annoying those "Roger, Roger" robots still are.
Something I've noted recently is a lot of people who normally wouldn't like sci-fi in general or Star Wars specifically are getting into because they've got Disney+. One of my co-workers was absolutely in shock that I haven't seen The Mandalorian yet, because she knows I'm a Star Wars fan. She got a baby Yoda t-shirt for Christmas, fer cryin' out loud.
I forgot to mention I saw this during the first week of release, thanks to my early time off from work before Christmas. I'm sort of in a surprised/not surprised state over the reactions to it, but I have to say I get a bit twitchy when think pieces are blaming people who saw the original movies in the theater because TLJ isn't like the originals. Um... yeah... I saw it in theaters when I was 6, and Gen X (like all generations) is not a hive mind.
I think I need to see it again to really get the full effect, because some things I missed. Ironically things I thought were happening did, it was just going by so fast I missed details. I think that might be part of the problem for some viewers, but I'm going to paraphrase something I saw on Tumblr, which I think was originally from Twitter. No movie could be as good as the one you've been building in your head for the last two years.
Did TLJ veer off of what was expected? Yes, but JJ Abrams is the king of the "mystery box" that doesn't truly have an answer, because continuous viewer speculation is better than what he could come up with (I'm looking at you, LOST), so any answer Rian Johnson could come up with would never top viewer expectations. So he just blew them out of the water with no real answer. I'm weirdly OK with that, because I don't think Abrams would have done much with the Big Mysteries other than drag it out without a real answer like he usually does. We shall see because he's back in the director's chair for the next movie, and I can already see where he can easily undo a lot of what Johnson did, if TPTB let him. Which brings me to spoiler territory...
Waaaaiiiiiiit... I just realized that the title is outlined in red instead of yellow. Red is generally associated with the Sith, so are they trying to tell us something?
Blastr: One controversial piece of Star Wars canon that won’t be in The Force Awakens
I'm still rather leery about the new Star Wars films. The prequels were flashy with no plot, and I'm not a huge fan of J.J. Abrams, so yeah, leery sums it up. That said, ignoring a bit from the prequels that completely went against the whole spirit of the originals is a good start.
Blaster: Sleepy Hollow drops [redacted] for Season 3 as part of creative shake-up
[Spoiler (click to open)]They're dropping the Headless Horseman. I thought I'd better keep this particular casting new behind a cut, because it's one that I feel affects the show more than most because the character was the one that started the path of insanity known as Sleepy Hollow. There are also other cast members gone, some we already knew about, but Orlando Jones (Irving), Katia Winter (Katrina), John Noble (Henry) and Matt Barr (Hawley).
I'm kind of still bummed about Jones, since I wish the storyline had left him as a police captain who was in the know who could help them as much as possible, but perhaps that wouldn't have worked if the writers used it as an easy out. I'm mixed on Katrina's exit. I know a lot of viewers wanted her gone to be able to pair up Ichabod and Abbie in canon, but you could tell the writers just didn't know what to do with her once she was rescued from Purgatory. I liked that she seemed to quickly adapt to modern life while Ichabod is still a bit like a hesitant history teacher, but I didn't like the sudden change in her to usher in her exit. Was way too rushed due to changes in TPTB with the new ones given marching order to get rid of her. It was time for Henry to go, to be honest. The actor did such a great job, but there's just so much you can do with the character. As for Hawley... Hawley who? No, honestly, every time he was onscreen, I kept wondering who the hell he was and why he was there. Potential love interest for one or both of the sisters? Dumper of esoteric information so Ichabod didn't have to do it all?
So that leaves us with Ichabod, Abbie, and Jenny, which is perfectly fine, but I'm curious to see what plotline they'll go with now. There's talk of taking out some of the dense mythology to make it more accessible to new viewers, but does that mean we'll go with "monster of the week" stuff, or will there be Big Bad arcs? Will they still be "Witnesses" or is that done with Moloch and The Horsemen out of the way? BTW, "Moloch and the Horsemen" is my new band name.
There's also a mention they may bring back Joe Corbin, the late sheriff's son, to give Jenny a partner to work with like Ichabod and Abbie do. I'm fine with that idea, but I do hope they mean it as a partner to investigate the spooky mysteries of Sleepy Hollow, and not a romantic partner. At least not in canon. Everyone else can ship however they want, but I really like when Ichabod and Abbie are shown as friends who trust each other completely, but it doesn't have to be read as a potential romance.
The Mary Sue: Mark Hamill Pleases Fans By Encouraging Less CGI In Star Wars VII
For me, CGI is like icing, meant to top the cake of practical effects. I like icing, but too much of it will make me sick (and big as my house), but even a nice proportion of icing to cake can overwhelm if the slice is too big. Besides, they're only as good as the ingredients necessary to make it taste so good (i.e. the plot).
Twitter by way of Tumbler:[Iron Man 3 Spoiler (click to open)]I thought it was cute that Happy's fave show was Downton Abbey, and Tony made sure it was playing on the TV in the hospital room. Though I did note that every time we saw Branson and Sybil onscreen, and even squeed a bit to my non-Downton watching friend (I'm working on her) because I totally shipped it. I probably would have picked up the subtext on a second viewing, which I'd planned, but it's nice knowing that subtext was done on purpose and not just my fannish imagination.
