fascinating

why i like elk:

they seem to regard us much in the same way people regard ants.
not as food.
not as a threat.
but as a creature of mild intrest that is, on the whole, a pest.

i think they would keep us in little glass cages filled with sand if they had opposable thumbs and a place to put us.

it is somehow reassuring that another creature on this earth displays the haughtiness towards humanity that we exhibit towards others.

i have always been reassured by the strangest things.

and why do i feel posessed to write without caps in this journal?

Motive for Evolution

Once, the continents were
a single solid mass of earth.
If they broke apart in an effort
to be joined with the ocean –
I know how that feels.

In a volcanic eruption
rock that has become molten
in the boiling core of the cold earth
wells up and explodes across the land.
I know of this, too.

Once all of life was a sea
filled with simple single celled creatures
Until evolution called and they began
to swim, reach, climb onto the shore.
I understand why they did this.

For centuries people have been
bound to this earth
while charting the stars above -
I feel for them.
Because you see,

If you were the moon
I would spend the entire night
gazing at the sky
and all the day
building a rocket.
