See, that’s what the app is perfect for.

Sounds perfect Wahhhh, I don’t wanna

hello mtv welcome to my blog

who are you?

i’m ines (pronounced e-nez, if you pronounce it “eye-nez” or like heinz without the h i’m hunting you down for sport don’t make me pull out the IPA), and i’m god’s weakest & nerdiest virago. i made this blog so i can scream into the void about the hetgnc experience, maybe sometimes the void will scream back and we can have a dialogue. that being said, i am not a virago/hetgnc information blog. do not cite me as a source i’m just here to scream. also i have autism and HSD if you care, you probably shouldn’t but you will be hearing about them please look forward to it

what are your interests?

i like computers & coding, i work in IT and it’s born out of my life-long love for messing with computers. yes i run linux (although i do most of my blogging on my old beloved macbook air), yes i own a thinkpad (her name is incentive), yes i hate java & javascript & electron with all my being next question

i am a certified gamer, although these days i’ve been sticking to jrpgs (just started xenoblade and the trails series, slowly making my way through the final fantasy games in a random order) and i am cursed with liking mmorpgs (just ffxiv these days because all the ones i used to play died. tera i will never forget you)

i do write sometimes and i love putting my ocs in situations, yes a lot of them are also a lil hetgnc with it, no i didn’t do this on purpose. i probably won’t talk about them publicly here only for sake of my anonymity

i like vgm, rock, and metal (mainly power metal but i dabble). sometimes my friends drag me to jazz & classical shows and i like those too, they’re just not genres i go out of my way to listen to.

i have various expensive nerd hobbies that i advise no one ever get into, like mechanical keyboards (which i got into because of my joint issues) and stationery collecting (especially fountain pens, also because of my joint issues). don’t do it it’s not worth it

i also really like working out but unfortunately due to my godawful joints i have been forced to stop until i work up the courage to find a physio but i still like talking about it and learning about fitness even if i suck at it. i want to be strong like bull and lift pretty boy pls help

what the hell’s your deal?

i’m very small and i have no money

feel free to hit me up in my asks or dms if you dare just know i may take a whole business week to get back to you. ok bye

men make it absolutely impossible to practice humility

gothhabiba

what you say: “I think this is the case”

what men hear: “I have no idea whatsoever, but here’s a totally random guess”

what you say: “I’m not an expert on this subject”

what men hear: “I don’t know anything about this subject and need its bare fundamentals explained to me”

what you say: “I could be better read in this area”

what men hear: “I have never read anything in this area”

like okay fuck it nevermind I’m actually an expert in every subject I’ve ever read or heard about. in fact I know everything.

If anyone's ever wondering why I come across as such an arrogant bitch on Tumblr it's because I used to work in science with a lot of men and never readjusted my communication style afterward.

This is one of my biggest seemingly low-stakes feminist soapboxes. Women are often encouraged to take hedging, consensus-seeking, and checking-in phrases out of their speech in order to seem "more confident". And listen, of course you do not need to say "I think" when you actually know for pretty damn sure, or double-check every little thing you say, or apologize for things that are out of your control.

But there are men in my life who I respect, who I think are generally good communicators, but who have admitted to me that if they do not know the answer to something they will just state their best guess in a confident tone of voice, with no hedging or clarification to warn the listener that what they just said was pulled from their ass.

I once asked my high school boyfriend what noise a platypus makes and he confidently told me "oh they quack" and I said "really? that seems like they'd have different noise-making structures than ducks since they're not birds" and he said "oh yeah you're probably right. I was just guessing." And had no idea why I was mad! I was like, so if I ask you a question you might just bullshit me?? What if I had believed you and gone and repeated that to other people? I could have looked like an idiot. I could have spread misinformation to a ton of people! But I have told that story to other men and had them say "oh yeah I totally do that."

This is so much worse communication than just saying "I don't know but I think..." There shouldn't be campaigns training professional women to sound "more confident," there should be campaigns training professional MEN to stop doing whatever THAT is!
