Hello Livejournal, I'm kinda back!

Gotta post up some stuff.

Oh god, guys, I did not mean to disappear for that long. I'm not dead. I'm just ... well, some weeks I'm not even busy.

This is not one of those weeks. x.x

Also, I've moved mostly to my new computer, but have not yet moved all the fun stuff over to this computer, so there hasn't been much to post.

I just need to let you know that I'm heading out to NEW ZEALAND on the 10th! Some of you may know that my sister is spending the semester in Melbourne, Australia, and she figured that she might as well explore New Zealand while she's over there. And dude, how could I pass that up. I found cheap tickets, got the time off of work, and I'm going to go on an 7-day tour of New Zealand! Yes, including several memorable scenes from Lord of the Rings, most important to me is Hobbiton. Fwee!

So, there. My continued hiatus, now with an excuse.

And ... I've heard that deviantArt has continued to be stupid and to pry into things that don't concern them? What does it even MATTER what an artist/writer identifies as, to them? Is it to map demographics or something? I don't understand the necessity of the gender checkbox.

I went to a "women's" college, but that gets air quotes because even on my tiny campus, there was such a spectrum of gender and sex that I know exactly how diverse things can get. Gender has nothing to do with sex. Just because I happen to be physically female and identify in a generally feminine way, I fit the cissexual norm. (I think I'm using that right ... it's been a while since my gender theory classes.) Neither sex NOR gender is an A or B situation. It may be for some people, but for others they fit neither A nor B, or they fit aspects of both. And maybe their sex is easily defined, but their gender is not. And that doesn't necessarily mean that the person is transsexual ... I've also heard the terms genderqueer, genderfluid, and genderfucked, for people who just plain don't conform to the black-and-white version people seem to have of gender and sex. And that's just fine.

So for me, personally, asking me to check A or B is a simple choice, and one I don't mind making. But I'm a bit ticked that they're ignoring all of my genderfluid siblings and forcing them into boxes that they don't want or need to fit.

*folds soapbox*

And I'm getting a shirt. You can count on it.

Because this SHOULD NOT be an issue. We shouldn't even be questioning the right of a person to marry whoever he or she chooses. Why? Because it's none of our business.

Don't support gay marriage? Then don't get one.

If you disagree, I respect your opinion, but I would rather not have hatred on this post.

Okay, I know I've been next to dead lately. Same old story, same old excuses. Mea culpa, mea culpa.

I come bearing news for all you fanfiction authors who have dreamed of publication! One of my bestest best friends, dancewithtrains, has a project going on for her Literary Editing and Publishing class - and she wants to publish a magazine made up of fanfiction!

Long story short: submissions are due November 4th. She prefers completed pieces or at least a completed draft that can stand on its own. If your story comes in chapters, she will accept the complete story, but will only publish one chapter at a time. Smut is NOT prohibited (thank goodness!), but what she's really looking for is literary merit, so stick some plot in with your porn.

Edit: to include a couple more details ... the page limit is 20 pages, double-spaced (or, you know, the standard spacing for LJ, which a space between each paragraph). The 20-page limit does not apply to chaptered stories ... as in, your story can be more than 20 pages. But the chapters shouldn't be longer than that.

Blah blah, work stuff, blah blah, I'm single again, blah blah. My personal life is boring. The way I broke up with the boy-thing is boring. Life goes on, we're all still here.

HOWEVER. I feel the need to share this.

A good 20 minutes of my day was filled with PANTS-WETTING TERROR. Not so much about the wedding celebration I kind of attended. But the getting there. YOU DO NOT REALIZE HOW DANGEROUSLY MOUNTAINOUS OREGON IS.

I was creeping up like a little old lady, going 20 miles per hour around hairpin turns around the side of a cliff with no break, no guardrail between me and SOLID, PAINFUL DEATH. And I was STILL praying like I'd never prayed before.

Seriously. The side of that mountain was so sheer that there was evidence of landslides in the road. The road that I was driving on.

I have learned that "scenic" = code word for "AAAAARRRRRGH OH CRAP OH GOD GET ME OUT OF THIS FLYING METAL DEATH TRAP"

Never. Never again. Jesusgod no.

I don't care that I'm a chicken and a sissy. I prefer my terror in short, brief spurts. I'm not one for extended stress. That was probably the worst 20 minutes of my life.

So how was your day?

Oh man, this is such a hard one to answer without making addendums and requirements.

Avatar: TLA land, probably. Though preferably post-war. Because personally, I think it would be SO FUN to bend. I don't care what I would bend, it would just be plain fun. Also, their clothes look comfy.

I suppose I could also say October Daye's world ... but I probably wouldn't last long. I'm far too much of a chicken, and I'm no good in dangerous situations. I would spend the entire time curled up in a corner, fending off evil faeries. (UNLESS I got to be at least half Cait Sidhe. Then I would spend my entire time as a cat, completely oblivious to the outside world.)

I have to admit ... I might also enjoy Harry Potter's England. Because, again, magic-doing is fun. :D And British accents rock my socks.

Today I used the non-word "holded" because "it sounded righter than the other options."

I think maybe I need to relinquish my English degree. Turn it in somewhere. Give up any right I have to that diploma.

Completely unrelated: I have a brand new computer! It's a spiffy, shiny new Toshiba Satellite A660, with (according to the packaging) 8 hours of battery life and a super-fast processor. I'm so incredibly excited. :D I have yet to actually set up all the stuff I want set up on it. But when I do get it ready, hooboy, look out world.

Even more unrelated: Does anyone happen to know, from personal experience or word of mouth, how strict ff.net is about allowing pornography on the site? Like, if I were to put out a chapter that was a solid sex scene, would I get exploded off the face of the internet?

I've had good luck so far ... no one has reported my especially porny chapters of anything I've written. But you never know.
