The only small issue I've had with the recent Spider-Woman trend is that, since most people don't read the comics, they make Petra sound too sheltered/insecure/withdrawn. Where's her snark? Her bite? Her charming asshole-ery??

They also make JJ sound too..."good" for lack of a better word. Jonah is a dick with a heart of silver, maybe gold if you spitshine it. Even if he IS fully supportive, he's still an ass.

A good example of how to voice their + Robbie's dynamic:

i genuinely just don’t think people who don’t want to drive should have to. i think driving should be optional and it’s weird that we pressure people who are uncomfortable with it into doing it

you know who we should make operate a 4000 pound machine that goes 80 miles an hour? people who are really anxious about it

If people are leaving Wattpad because of the censorship, then coming to AO3 only to beg for censorship what's the point? It’s called Archive of Our Own for a reason, it is ours. For us and by us.

Because apparently it needs to be spelled out, I’m writing out some of the unwritten rules of AO3:

  1. Don't like, don't read - you can have your own opinions but if you don't like it just scroll past, it's that easy. Let it be.
  2. Read. The. Tags. - the tags are warnings of what the story will include. That is your guide. If there is something you're not comfortable with in the tags then scroll past. The AO3 tagging system is genius and lets you filter out the things you don’t like, so you don’t even have to see the stories you might not be comfortable with if you don’t want to. Use the tags.
  3. Do not spread the stories outside of fandom spaces - fanfiction is for the fans. Especially when it’s RPF it is not to be referenced or brought up to the people who it is about. They are all very aware that it is made but that doesn’t mean they want to read it or know about it. I don’t care what you say, it is unavoidable and as long as it is not widespread and stays in its own space it is not harmful. It is up to the fans to respect that. (That being said if the people who the RPF fics are about search them up or reference fics themselves that’s a bit different and the rules change a bit.)
  4. Respect the authors - the authors spend their own time writing stories, many of which are genuinely incredibly written and well thought out, for absolutely nothing in return. You get to read pieces of work for free by authors who are doing it for free. Do not go to the comments and complain or say they should have done something else or report because they wrote something you’re not comfortable with. And respect the authors wishes when they say not to share their work anywhere else.

Basically just respect fandom spaces, keep them separate from reality, and mind your own business. It’s so easy.

It’s a very under-appreciated thing to have an archive where people can put their work out for the world to see and make art that can be appreciated and easily accessed by other people on a wide scale, and it needs to be protected.

being late getting into a piece of media or joining a ‘dead’ fandom is not that bad actually cause even if it seems like the party is over there will always be people still celebrating and the decoration is still up and there’s a piece of cake reserved especially for you in the fridge you just have to come and enjoy it.

you are playing with an imaginary toy in an imaginary sandbox. fandom is all about having fun and letting your imagination run wild. canon is only a suggestion, not a rule. how much of canon you will follow, if any, is entirely up to you.

please stop trying to apply rules on hobbies and something that’s supposed to be your comfort place and a form of self-care.

“is it okay if I think this” “is it okay if I imagine that” it’s YOUR little world that you create for yourself and your own enjoyment. you literally do not need strangers’ opinions or permission when it comes to a hobby that doesn’t harm or affect anybody in real life. again, it’s YOUR imagination, YOUR world, YOUR creation. you have all the power and the freedom to:

  • headcanon whatever you want, however you want
  • ship whatever you want, however you want
  • write whatever you want, however you want
  • draw whatever you want, however you want
  • create whatever you want, however you want
  • reject whatever you want, however you want

as long as you’re not harming anybody in real life, how you have fun with fictional characters and your imagination is no one’s business but your own’s.

last but not least: fiction is not, and will never be, a reflection of your real-life moral compass. what you like in fiction does not reflect who you are in real life as a person. kill that cop in your head.

I love Revy and Rock as a ship because literally everyone in the damn city thinks they're fucking. The bar owner they are regulars at thinks they're fucking, the nuns think they're fucking, the strippers think they're fucking, the women that try to mess with Rock think they're fucking, the Russian Mafia and the Chinese Triad think they're fucking, the mini maid with the knife shoe thinks they're fucking. And then you knock at Revy's one room shithole apartment only for Rock to open the door (happens multiple times) while she's walking around butt naked straight out of a shower or when she just woke up at the ass crack of the morning and you go, "dude...I think they're fucking".

Except I'm pretty sure they're not??? But then why do they never deny that they're an item??? And why did Rock feel the need to apologize to her when Feng kissed him? And why did he not comment when she referred to Revy as his girlfriend?

Rei? Buddy? Please explain??? Its been 12 years and I'm still waiting for a confirmation...
