when do they get the idea of adding and subtracting
This morning, he is a month away from three; it occurred to me that he has completely gotten the idea. He gets lost in larger numbers (5-7) but up to four he almost always gives a correct answer.

Ellen(3,5) and I were playing with marbels tonight. Then we started to play by counting them. I was adding one by one marble and asking how many are there. My goal was to lead to the idea of adding 1(you don't need to count all the way, result will be next number after the previous one). She was doing really good by counting small numbers, but she would always start from 1. On the bigger numbers it got a bit difficult, because she started to rush and miscalculate.
Should we wait with this game until she is really good(doesn't do any mistakes) with plain counting? But it's kind of boring just to count.
Should I had to procide in some other way?
Is it expected from a 3years old to be able to make a such pattern by herself or some explanation is due from a parent?

Max has three mints. Since that’s all I am planning to give him he causes a scene (he wants, five, six, seven mints). As part of the scene he drops one mint:
