Photographs, software, tea & fandom
May. 17th, 2010 09:15 pmLast week I decided to walk to the local post office rather than wait for a rare countrified bus or take the train to a further location just for convenience and I was surprised to find that I actually enjoyed the walk. Twenty minutes in each direction on a bright, summery day taken at my own pace along a route that very clearly once upon a time was the stuff of village lanes and perhaps even little hamlets proved to be unexpectedly pleasant. There were two churches that I passed but only the older of the two had a graveyard and it was one particular blossoming tree in that graveyard itself that persuaded me to go in and take a photograph on my way back. I ended up taking a few photos in the end because I was struck by the peacefulness and artless beauty of the place, though I didn’t photograph the tombstone of a lady by the name of Asenath, hopefully not of the surname Waite.

Indian tea (as it’s called in Burmese)

Directions: simmer a teabag and some cardamom seeds in a pan of milk with as much sugar as desired. When satisfied with the colour and taste pour into a mug to serve.
In other news, Kuroshitsuji chapter 45: I have every reason to believe that subtlety may not be Yana Toboso's forte.
Also, while I’ve been stewing over the fact that none of the fandom favourite shota pieces ever seem to address the incest angle now that I’ve caught a glimpse of a piece that presumably does from the warnings I’m not at all sure how I feel about it. Or rather my initial response wasn’t positive and I’m not sure if that can be salvaged. Logically I know that if anyone is going to write Sebastian/Ciel then they need to address the fact that Sebastian looks like Vincent minus the mole under his left eye but considering that there seems to be gratuitous shota in spades all over the place, in stilted English, with pseudo-archaic language, seemingly written by individuals who have no grasp of history or creative anachronism and who, being entirely honest, I’d like to at least smack about a little with a copy of Debrett’s… anything really though the Peerage & Baronetage might be the best option simply because Correct Form isn’t hardback and my Etiquette & Modern Manners is a little out of date, I’m not at all convinced that it’s going to be handled in anything like a lucid fashion. Of course I can’t even remember why I decided to watch the fanworks com in the first place instead of just sticking to the canon one either so that doesn’t help.

Date: 2010-05-18 03:43 pm (UTC)The tea sounds a bit like what I do when making cardamom tea, but I would like to give it a try. Now is it just milk, or would it be alright to add a little water to the mixture?
As for Kuroshitsuji there's this while not being a Sebastian/Ciel fic, just seems to emphasize what you're saying about authors who haven't the slightest clue about anything relating to the series their writing about.

Date: 2010-05-31 08:37 am (UTC)There’s been another Sue posted since with cat ears just to prove that the fandom hasn’t hit rock bottom just yet and there’s a while to go. I really did want to write something addressing the fact that Sebastian’s whole persona borders on flirtatious while at the same time there’s got to be a huge cognitive dissonance for Ciel because the chap teasingly flirting with him looks just like his father, but now I’ve been put off writing the idea somewhat.

I would actually like to read something like that, if you to decided to write it.
