  • btw my plan is to do an editing pass and then a second details pass before posting something blue and im not even halfway through the first one. so. gonna be a few days LOL but i am determined to get this posted by wednesday

  • the situation with harry potter is kind of unprecedented in some ways imo because it is maybe the largest media franchise in history to be created & owned by a single person who still has direct creative control over it. who is also a billionaire with significant cultural/political influence. like the usual "no ethical consumption under capitalism" type excuses shatter on impact when the bigoted author in question is logging onto twitter every day saying explicitly that when you buy the tim hortons ravenclaw donut she is using your donut money to fund the genocide of trans people. like with big franchises usually there's at least a little more diffusion of responsibility than this

Fic idea: Catradora PHM crossover, with Catra as Rocky, Adora as Grace, and SW as Stratt.

Optional Markiplier just existing for no specific reason

  • guys you gotta start referencing media ive heard of gkfjkjfgdkjfdg

ok nvm post cancelled someone told me this is project hail mary which i actually know about XD havent watched it, not sure if i will be its on the “if the brain worms let me” list

  • sometimes i have strong opinions but they're also so inane that halfway through writing a post i'll be like "yeah, this is Absolutely not worth the energy it's taking" and delete everything. but then the opinion is still in my head. and i still want to share it. so within five minutes i go "you know, i bet i can phrase it more succinctly this time" and anyway. you all see where this is going. sometimes i do this four times in a row before i give up on the specific inane opinion and instead write a vague post about the concept of opinions as if that'll satisfy the urge to post the entirety of my inner monologue online. may or may not be relevant to what you're reading right now. and now all our lives have been enriched. you're welcome

In soulmark AU are tattoos less common or even taboo since they mimic/take away from ones soulmark?

  • i think this would vary a lot by culture. probably leaning more towards tabboo than not, but others i think would be into adorning more based on your mark/soulmate/life. there’s def a religion where continually adding to your soulmark is a practice. that said i think people just getting random one-off tattoos is more rare, people who are getting tattoos would lean more towards “body plans” or at least enough tattoos to look separate from soulmarks and intentional lol. there would def be superstitions about getting a tattoo before meeting your soulmate because it’s like youre trying to “replace” your mark and your soulmate is gonna die or some shit 🙄

Like your medieval Catradora fic, are there any other of your fics where Adora ahem, researched, magicat relationships in their time apart lol?

  • i think it’s not uncommon in modern aus for adora to discover magicat porn, get really freaked out by how interested she is in it, and attempt not to engage with porn ever again XD in isohm, it was written books, which helped her a lot with not hating herself for a “fetish” (girl you’re in love and ctrl+r replacing its okay) or subconsciously running from it because it’s stirring something in her subconscious lol. oh also they had been together and not parted on bad terms so that helped a lot. she didn’t think the thoughts were “bad” they were memories<3. and she didnt think catra hated her even if she was wrong about that LOL

It’s interesting that you briefly mention the legality of marriage for those without marks in Patchwork.

In Mass Effect AU Magicats didn’t formally marry because they didn’t need it, due to their mutual marks.

It makes me wonder if marriage would’ve been a thing in societies with soulmarks?

  • here’s the thing. marriage is a legal contract and i fr dont know why anyone thinks of it romantically (now). the romantic part is “i love this person enough i think i’m going to want to legally share my life with them forever” but it is still Legally Sharing Your Life With Someone and if you don’t want to do that, it doesn’t mean you don’t love them a lot, just like not wanting to get their name tattooed doesn’t mean you don’t them love them. it’s just not something you want to do, for any number of reasons. i feel like im going insane sometimes with the way people talk about marriage.

anyway all that is to say, even in a society where it is illegal to marry someone other than your soulmate, there are plenty of reasons for people to not want to get married - particularly for the elite, who have the most influence over law and might have to ‘worry’ about their soulmate being a commoner that they don’t want to Legally Own Half Their Stuff By Default. so i think what marriage is legally, if it exists in a universe at all, would still exist in soulmate universes. even if you do want to be tied to your soulmate… when does that kick in? the second you meet them? Some arbitrary date afterwards like “one year from meeting to get your lives together”? when you turn 18? when if you dont meet them until youre 40? so yeah i think it still exists lol

in the mass effect au, how people treat marriage socially/romantically was covered by the marks, and legally they didn’t have the same kind of concept Exactly. you could sign off to own a home together - unmarried people can do that irl too its just hard to get approved lol. if you had a child together legally you would split parentage anyway. if you wanted to “adopt” a kid you could adopt a part or whole of their parentage regardless of relationship status. so yeah they just don’t have marriage but they have some legal processes to get some of the same functions that are practical - but those things could go to different people, too. one person you’re mated to, another you split a child with, a third you own property with, etc. it’s like… modular i guess. in practice, usually you were owning property and having children with your mate lol, but not always and magicats are more aquainted with “nontraditional” families as a result
